Not trying to necro an old thread, but in case anybody else runs into this. This happened on my brothers machine when I was installing it a few days ago. The problem was using windows to Unzip the file, we tried the copy I brought over, downloaded a new copy and couldn't figure out what the problem was it kept telling us Unsupported. Finally I looked at the EQgame.exe file and the size was 0. Ended up Windows only unzipped 4.5 gigs worth of files, even though the original zip file was larger. I used a different unzip program on the exact one that wasn't working on windows when we tried three different times and it unpacked it with no problems.

I'd not heard of Win 10 errors at unzipping files before...but very good to know.

I generally use my own zip program. My current favorite is http://www.7-zip.org/

I remember when it was illegal to take zip programs out of the US (1970s) used to be the encryption was about the best that could be had...still is pretty good. Have a few old zipped files that I forgot the password to and....never have managed to unzip them.

Great info! Using 7-zip to extract it solved my problem.

Currently having this issue. Windows 10, same exact install was working fine in Win7 but apparently it doesn't like W10?

Have tried clean installs of 3 different clients to no avail (titanium/UF/RoF2)

Looks like you are a returning player. Welcome back. 8-)

I would recommend not using either the old Titanium nor the UF. Use the one that is from the link on the THF site. Titanium was buggy on Day 1 of its creation back in 2006, and that has not changed. UF is ok, but RoF2 has features that UF does not plus its three years younger.

Then follow the directions exactly as written on the THF website. One wrong move and you can be toast. 8-)

That said, I do disagree with where it says you can use previous installs from other sources. I have seen so many problems with that since there are so many ways that the EQ client install can be modified. Instead, do the part that says to make a fresh clean empty folder and put your THF RoF2 in that.

I also would disagree with when it says to put your Rof2 folder where ever you want. Unfortunately, there are some windows folders that are treated differently than others (I learned this myself the hard way). Instead, put it in the root of c:. For example, c:\THF or c:\EQ\THF. You get the idea.

And, when having troubles, don't just overwrite what you did before. Instead, delete the entire folder and start over with a new folder. After you get started...after you got things working and you are used to playing with EQ files...THEN you can get fancy with overwriting and copying and moving things around.

The problem that you saw in the earlier posts from years ago was a Win7 unzip problem. For whatever reason, Microsoft allowed its built-in unzipper to have a max capacity. Beyond that capacity, it would simply create 0 byte files. You would SEE all the files you were supposed to have...their names would be in your file list...but after a few gigabytes of unzipping, those file sizes would be 0. There was no data in them. Win10 does not have this problem.

I too did fresh installs after rebuilding my two computers last year (not really a rebuild...the only two things that remained the same were the cases and power supplies). And I installed Win10 home on them.

The only probs I had with RoF2 was due to me installing in c:\programs(86). That folder has special security rules. Since other folders could also have special rules, I have since recommended installing to c:\.

I did a write up on installing RoF2 and MQ2...its dated Oct 13, 2020.

I had the same issue when I upgraded OS and couldn't resolve it. Will try to investigate again or find a workaround to this.

Tried that as well :(

T_T

good luck sir, and lemme know if you make any progress!

Is it still possible to install the server files manually (like we did way back before the patcher was a thing)? Seems like just the installer is busted, not the actual game.
