Welcome to the server! Glad you have found us and hope you enjoy your stay

With bots and other various customizations, things are going to be much different than the EQ you may be used to. We strive to give each class enough reason for people to play them and, for the most part, this seems to be working. Of course, warriors make up the largest percentage, but everyone has their place.
I don't know about wizard and bard targetting, perhaps Chaos knows?
Bots are quite limited and hardly can even begin to fill the shoes of a real player or boxed character. For example, I play a Cleric/Rogue combo and can easily run amok on any of the non-raid targets up to raid tier 3. However, if I tried to do that with a botted Cleric instead, I can't even reliably take out the trash in tier 2 zones. I play a main Cleric (one of the few who do) and have enjoyed it thoroughly, but you would want something to tank/dps.
Chanters then fill the gap right there very well. On THF, Chanters don't really fill the CC role as their isn't too much need. Instead they typically take the role of charm DPS/tanking and great care has been done to make decent charm beasties available (along with set duration spells) in most (all?) zones. For example, one time we were raiding tier 2 (ToV) long ago and were going for a Vulak kill which was moderately new to us. We had limited resources and all our tanks/off tanks and most of our DPS fell at 10%. However, the charmed worm stepped up to the plate and 3 clerics spammed him with AHL in order to keep him up and he finished off Vulak and saved the raid. Of course, this is a raid example, but I think it adequately shows the power of the chanter who is more of a "high risk, high reward" class here as it should be. Heck, chanters can solo stuff easily that I can't even dream of taking with my duo.
There is plenty of content here to make the hardcore raider happy also
