Easier Boxing

I'm currently trying to 4-box on my laptop [that might be the problem right there lol] and I have an insane amount of lag, which is to be expected, really.
I'm trying to find a way to make things smoother on the laptop because it's all I have to use right now.

I run Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop.

If anyone has any suggestions, please tell me. I've tried RunFirst but that doesn't work, someone said WinEq2 but that didn't work for me either. I may not have been doing things right, either, so... [on RunFirst, one of those black boxes with text pops up for about a 10th of a second and then disappears - maybe something else needs to be done?]

Any help is appreciated!!!

Boxing on a laptop is prolly the issue :p

Wineq2 has playnice attached to it, thats helps it process better.

My recommendations on hardware (buy a real gaming rig, not a laptop)

Quadcore CPU, 8GB of RAM, dual Nvidia 9800GT or ATI equivalent videocards (not in SLI mode), perhaps Three (3) 19" LCD screens will help you tremendously in boxing. You can easily box five windowed sessions here. Your tank in full window mode on the center LCD, healers and dps (2 each) on each left/right LCD. With this setup you can comfortably box 5 characters, each on their own screen, and no need for alt-tabbing, you use the mouse instead.

-edit- get a computer with a built-in RAID, use RAID-0 (stripping) for best harddrive performance, assuming you have 2 harddrives (this might be a little complicated to setup, cuz you have to reinstall Windows and everything).

Get more memory and use SoD client. EQ is a memory pig and you are probably running out, meaning you are using virtual memory which is slooooow.

I box 4 on a Dell laptop - Core 2 Duo, 4gig ram, Vista Biz pro. I only have lag problems in the hub zones.

No need for quadcore or dual vga cards lol.

1) set up your system correctly (no need to install everything you get offered, win7, virus scanner, eq , stop here)
2) get 4gb ram
3) get sod or Titanium with eq play nice

I used to play on dual core amd and 4 box fine with it.

I love my quadcore setup... dual 8800GT(s) and 3 LCDs lol... actually I only have 6GB of RAM which is fine. OS is Vista x64. Virtually lag free... also have AT&T Uverse highspeed Internet. It was freezing up for awhile, then I figured out that it was just the SATA cable that was loose.

-edit- yeah my rig might seem a little overkill, but having that much processing power and capacity does make the game perform better and helps kill the lag. Internet bandwidth is also a big factor... get cable or DSL at least, and use a LAN cable, wireless kinda sucks for multiboxing (tried it, didn't like it)

There is a defrag program (I'll have to find the link when I get home) where you can specify what files you want to be on the fastest part of the HD cutting alot of lag out. I used it in Vanguard and it helped tremendously.

If your getting tons of lag, its either your video card in the laptop or your RAM causing the sluggishness of the game. It might be beneficial to just consider trying to 2box/3box instead of going for a 4box :D
