THF and P1999 parallel installation

I have played p1999 for some time and will continue to do so. But I also want to play on THF and logging on is no issue, but i need to download the custom files.

The issue is i dont want to overwrite the p1999 files.

So has anyone successfully accomplished being to log onto both (not at the same time)?

thanks, Jeff

Easiest way is to have 2 separate installs, one with P99 files and one with THF files

That's what I did. There is a launcher that downloads the files needed to play on specific EMU servers, but it sometimes does not show the server's status correctly.

well the launcher isn't up to date with our custom files either, so I suggest you to just grab them from our portal, and use a clean separate installation folder for THF (that will work for most of the other emu servers too).

Thanks. I kind of wondered if that was going to be the answer. But figured their might be a handy "swap" utility since i figure i would not be the first with such a need.

OK....so any issues installing client 2 times on same machine? Wonder if there are registry settings which might get clobbered by the second install.

thanks, Jeff

1. delete uninstall all eq related things first
2. install EQ T
3. copy the folder
4. now rename 1st folder as EQ-99 and another as EQ-THF

EQ has no registry entries to speak of.

Really the only thing you need to play on P99 is the old lavastorm.
On Computer A I have lava set for P99.
I also have a folder on my desktop which is my EQBackup folder.
I have 2 sub folders. One contains the GlobalLoad and spell file for default eq titanium install.
The other folder has every THF custom file THF has released in the previous year.
Yes I kept the zip files cause im strange like that.
Just because P99 is "classic" did not mean I was going to butcher my UI and spell icons.
I dont care about that garbage, I play(ed) there to see old content when I get super mega bored.

Otherwise yes having 2 installs is fine and considering how large HD are these days it is not that big of a deal to have a separate install for every server you play on if you do not like changing files.

you can also significantly reduce the file size of the P1999 folder as it only needs the zone files for classic to velious. I think there is a thread on their forums on how to get it under 1GB so it will go on any flash drive and you can play it on basically any comp. Although i think the 1GB thing is classic only (no kunark or velious, which are not completed yet anyways).

i would highly recommend 2 different folders instead of switching files each time. else you will miss something and run into issues like i had with missing zone files which caused several problems for me when i 1st started playing here that i couldn't figure out. Kudos to the great staff here for helping me resolve those issues even though they were produced from my own oversight.

Stickybuds you feel like doing a writeup on your experience and putting it on the wiki.
Its been awhile since we had a connection guide for people to view.
Maybe someone will find it useful. Maybe one of those hundred people asking in ooc will actually read the forum/wiki for a change.
