Crashing/lag help

I used to play a lot on this server ... to the point where I even got heavily involved in some of the behind the scenes work. I left maybe 8-9 months ago (really just a guess, I don't know) due to various reasons involving a child being born. However, another reason was due to some annoying connection problems I was having.

My client would do what felt like a lag spike, but never recover. NPC's could move, but wouldn't animate and when they died, they just stood there at 0% health. PC's could move with animation, but I couldn't see any attack animations from the melee. Others could see what I wrote just fine in any channel, but I couldn't get any messages. This fake lag spike would frequently only happen during fights, but not during all fights.

The reason I say all this, is that I desired to come back to play and so I began playing last night. I ran one of the new GoD adventures with my guild and this happened twice before we failed the time limit (with the boss at half life, argh!) which was one hour. Then last night, I went on a VP raid where it got REALLY bad. Silverwing's fight had me dropped twice and Hoshkar's fight had me dropped a whopping 4 times.

I have not tried other servers yet, but that would be more difficult to test since I don't really have any high level chars on any server other than Irrev's solo server and I've never dropped on THF when running solo.

Since my departure 8-9 months ago, my internet connection has been upgraded to 20/20 and I only live approximately 700km from the server. I really do not think it is lag as my connection works exceptionally well with every other online game I play. I've played TF2 and CS for 3-4 hours at a time on American servers with no drops.

If anyone has any advice, I would be most grateful as I love this game and server. I enjoyed what little time I had last night with all my old friends, but it's pretty much unplayable.

*Edit* One suggestion was to turn off my logs, which is a great idea given the symptoms, but my logs weren't on during our VP run. My current ideas are either that the server just hates me (not logical) or maybe it is a problem with the SoD version. Maybe I should try Underfoot? Suppose I could acquire Titanium again and try that.

In the past couple of days I have experienced a similar scenario on and off.

Interestingly, even other toons in the same computer (or the other 2 systems I use) were fine, but this one toon, the MT, just would sit there with the mob at 0% and nothing happening. Mob was dead on other screens and even on other toons' windows in the same computer, but not on this one.

Later on, the second cleric on a different computer was acting up the same way.

I rebooted, etc. etc. to no avail. This was in PoA. A couple of hours later everything seemed fine.

Prior night same deal.

A guildie was having similar problems in PoA today. I didn't go to other zones to hunt.

Now that I recall, I do think I it may have always been Jerant that had the problem in months past. Maybe I should try the next raid as my alt. Thank you for the advice.

WB Koeril!

I experience the same issue on some toons (only one freezing and never recovering, never the same toon but it crashes several time after i relog) since the afk script was removed. Never had issues before Even when running 8 toons at the same time for hours.

Ps: never say never :)

This happened to me in the past before the AFK script was put in.

I loaded up Titanium today, but have an early wake up tomorrow so no testing. We'll see if it is a version thing. Hopefully that will fix it, but if not I'll see if it happens on Hans next raid.

Agreed. Turning off what's visible via the filters options can help reduce lag spikes, and other spam-related issues. It's possible it could help avoid crashing as well.

Will give that a shot.

I did some reading on something Extralitens sent me which talks about a setting called serverfilter in the eqclient.ini. Supposedly it truly makes the server stop from sending you all that spam you turned off rather than just keeping it invisible. I found that option in the titanium eqclient set to 0, but it wasn't in the SoD ini at all.

Thank you for the continued assistance, everyone. I hope this works out - should get some serious play time tomorrow night for a trial run.
