Improved load times

Heya.

My playtime is limited so I try to make the best of every moment... but man, sometimes loading is a pita - especially when you have 3+ on one computer.

Does anyone know what time main bottleneck is for EQ?

Does anyone have a SSD and notice the difference?

... First things first - i'll bump my ram up to 4gig.

DS.
Thanks for the memories.

The trick I use is running two separate EQs. The first one has all the global.ini files as they should look. The second is a copy of the whole EQ folder, but with global.ini files set to the absolute minimum (about 5 lines long), and everything (including clip plane) set low low low.

With this you'll need two EQ shortcuts on your desktop. The first one launches your main, the second one launches boxed chars. On your main window everything looks good, in your box windows, everyone (plus mobs) are human models, no one is seen holding a weapon, and you cant see 10 feet in front of you. But if you're using hotkeys and tabbing over, who cares what the secondary window looks like inside.

The boxs load up twice as quick as the main, and with a lot less chop lag.

I'm at work, but I'm sure you can google how to set what I've described here. It will free up a lot of ram.

Thats pretty awesome. I'll go ahead and try that.

I know that my laptop gets pretty hot when I box as well... That should definitely increase its lifespan.
Thanks for the memories.

Biggest issue I had on what is now my wifes desktop was the CPU.
Top end video card, high end RAM 4gig and solid 10kRPM HD from WD which never ever gave me issues during its life cycle.
The CPU even tho it was "decent" was my bottle neck.
This computer I am writing from atm is my 2nd box and is now 2 years old and ran better then my main box. For some reason the CPU just out performed the other one.
This box is a core 2 duo E6850 and the other was like the E8k or there about.

wtb faster update install so I dont troll the boards.

I Found SOD client to zone a lot more quickly than Titanium. Also I think ive only had 2 clients crash since I switched from titanium to SOD.

More memory is the biggest gain, switch off all the new graphics helps also. If youve got more HDD's helps also. I run one of my boxes with 2 HDD's so I can spread the load between them.

I have issues. Loading issues. Other issues. Someone get me a pill please.

Seriously, the load time for my two toons is long but it gives me time to get a glass of iced tea and pee. So life is good. =)

SSD's do help with loading times ( I noticed no one else answered your question about SSD's ) I am currently switching in between countries so I am without all my good hardware but on my primary comp I have 2 Solid state drives (Corsair Series 3 120 GB I believe) and after installing those, it nearly cut loading times by 75%. For example...before if I were to zone it would be normally 1 minute, sometimes 2 tops. With my primary comp I can usually zone into just about anywhere in under 20 seconds. On this comp I usually ran 4 boxes as well, max graphics (minus females cuz I dont play female chars nor care to). That's my 2 cents =)

But definitely look into it, I think SSD's are a great investment even when not gaming. Goto youtube and type in Samsung SSD Performance (forget name of video) But it just shows some of the things you can do with SSD's to the extreme. The guy hooks up like 24 SSD's to one comp and does all kinds of crazy stuff - it's pretty neat. Just look into it, it's definitely a viable option - Take care!
