Sometimes, when I zoned A LOT of characters at the same time, they used to get desynched or even crash, while others were fine. I now make sure I "stagger" all of them instead of zoning all at once.

Also make sure you are not torrenting anywhere on your LAN, srsly, it gave me MANY disconnects and other problems that didn't make sense. Now, while I play, I do not have any torrenting going. Problems are gone.

PS: All my torrenting is LEGAL, yes, srsly :) /wave to FBI

Well, reading your comments on what you have done/experienced, its possible it could be a port issue with your internet.

Right now THF runs 20(?) static zones which always use the same port address. We also run 80 dynamic zones that will constantly change ports as they are booted up/taken down. I had a similar issue awhile back and ended up having to replace my router because the port application for the router was no longer responding or something and I couldn't get into EQEmu at all because of this. Something you may try if you use a router (Which i am assuming you do since you run 2 computers off the same internet) is after this happens to you the next time, plug one of your computers straight into your modem and see if you are still experiencing the issue. If you aren't then its obviously a router/port issue with your network.

Also, please don't quote me on any of this lol, I have about zero knowledge of the ports/routing mechanisms of computers. Lillu may be able to shed some light on which exact ports EQEmu uses to help you figure out which ones may be blocked.
Oh the fun you all are going to have in DSK3...

Ahhh, now that is something that makes more sense to me. My modem/router is all one piece, part of the equipment provided by Verizon for my FIOS service. It was replaced approx 4 or 5 months ago, maybe even a bit less, so perhaps I need to go in and tweak some port settings. If anyone knows what ports I need to be considering that would be awesome information to have.

The more I think about this, the more sense it makes and would explain being unable to access only a single zone. Thanks Vaion... I may have some hair left when I log back in!

Hope it helps. Again, I don't know the exact ports that we use for THF for the zones. You will either have to wait for Lillu to reply here with the #s or PM him directly to get them.

Hope this fixes the issues for you. :)

Going off of Vaion's idea, here are 3 suggestions in order of least exposure to outside networking. I have FIOS as well.

1. The FIOS Actiontec router supports UPnP and it is on by default. From the Network and Sharing Center control panel click the "See full map" link. Locate your router on the Network Map and open the properties. You can enable port forwarding in several ways, but the most basic is simply picking Everquest from the program list here. There is an EQ forwarding profile already in the router firmware.

2. Within the General menu of the Firewall Settings page from the router's web administration there are 3 security settings. The default may be "Maximum". Try setting it to "Typical".

3. On this same Firewall Settings page there is a DMZ menu with a DMZ Host IP field. Enter the current internal IP assigned to one of the EQ computers. This will accomplish the same as Vaion's direct modem connection suggestion, since you have a combo FIOS modem/router and can't directly connect.

I don't require #1, nor #3 to play EQEmu at THF. I set #2 long ago, for a different service, but there may be no correlation to EQEmu at all. #1 may not be relevant if EQEmu uses ports way outside of live. In this case you would need to manually forward ports as already suggested.

Sounds like Droon may be the best advice giver about your situation as he sounds familiar with FIOS however if you still have issues get us the exact router name and serial number.
Combined googling we'll figure out your issue.
Myself I have TWC cable and recently upgraded to the 30mb/10mb service and the modem/router they require me to use sucks balls.
CS rep straight up refused to give me the admin login, because if I dont change it they can remotely log in and reboot on me, which they liked to do after I had been online over 24hr.
Google was my friend, found the required Login/PW and changed it, was able to change all my settings. Have almost no issue on EQEMU.

Ok. I have gone in and manually forwarded ports 7000-7100 for one computer. This way if it happens on the other I can verify that was the issue. Those were the ports I found on the eqemu site, so here is hoping they are the right ones.

Security is set to typical already. I'll keep the DMZ info you gave me for later, in case it happens on both computers again, then at least I can rule out ports entirely.

Again everyone.... Thank you! I'll let you know if it happens again!

Hmmm pretty sure you do not need to open those ports on your end.
The server itself uses those ports for the zones.
You might want to ask Trevius of StormHaven he is pretty knowledgeable about that stuff.
Is my usual target for PM's when I have any emu question.
His inbox use to get more of a workout from me then Lillu's does here.
