Situation appears to be resolved, after white-listing the site in my firewall (AVG) I've experienced no connection issues and almost no client crashes. I have let my characters sit on character select screen till disconnect to simulate conditions I know have caused the problem previously and am no longer experiencing the condition.

Interesting, I have had some client crashes. I thought it was due to CPU/Memory usage. This cant hurt, will white-list the site and see.
