Mini Project - MQ2ItemDisplay Quest Lookup

I had an idea today and wrote up some quick tables in SQL to structure the idea out.

Basically, when inspecting an item I thought it would be handy to be able to see more info.
  • Shows Alla Clone displayed data, such as.. which mobs an item drops from, % chance from the mob, level of mob
  • Which recipes it is from
  • Which quests the item is for (Incomplete)
  • Which merchants the item is sold by
You can see how it looks in game here: (click for larger image)

Do I have MQ2ItemDisplay?
Chances are if you use MQ2, you do. This unobtrusive plugin comes with most builds of MQ2, and to verify you have it loaded right click virtually ANY item and see if the inspect window has details about the Lore, spell effects, etc on the bottom. If it does, you already have MQ2ItemDisplay.

How to add the quest data:
Download > this file < (Last Updated 06-12-2015)
Then,
Find where your macroquest.exe file is at. Look for mq2itemdisplay.ini, if you do not have a mq2itemdisplay.ini file along side your mq2itemdisplay.dll open notepad and paste the info and save it as mq2itemdisplay.ini. Now in game type /plugin mq2itemdisplay to reload the mq2itemdisplay plugin.

(It will note mq2itemdisplay was loaded).

Now inspect an item listed in the large text you pasted above, and on the bottom will be details about the quest if all worked well.

Enjoy.

I'm not trying to be a naysayer, just a few things to consider.

We indeed do have, and quite a lot of work was put into our Wiki and Alla Clone. It's tremendous work to extend and keep them up to date. This is why we are constantly looking for voluntary players who are willing to contribute to our Wiki. I believe your hard work on this new project would kinda be obsolete or at least not as useful as how hard it would be to implement it.

Also, I'm guessing this solution would require MQ2 usage which we do not recommend. :P

As a personal note, I would like to rather see more Shin Noir videos of THF. <3

By the way, you should throw me as a wiki contributor. I'm constantly finding little things but too lazy to post a topic about, and help contribute new content.

My little item info display is primarily just to simplify the lookup to Wiki. I actually store a reference URL to the wiki on my database, so yeah, I'm not stopping the contributions to wiki or quest guide section, instead I'm creating a quick reference. I can make it display the url on the quick info

Here is my scenario this covers that I love about this idea:

A random item just dropped! 5th Part of Truth.
OK, what is it?
Item search on alla clone.
webtools/items.php?id=17777
Find item, find out what it's dropped by, and that it's used in a recipe. Click recipe.
webtools/recipe.php?id=10300
We know what it yields, but what quest is this for?
Hmmm.. Let's try hidden forest search. Search for "part of the truth", results:
search.php?keywords=part+of+the+truth&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search
3rd result talks about an issue with VP key.
So Wiki search "5th part of the truth":
wiki/index.php?search=5th+part+of+the+truth&ns0=1&title=Special%3ASearch&fulltext=Search&fulltext=Search
No results.

So 3 searches, 1 slightly related search.
If I go to where the wiki page is,
wiki/index.php/Key_to_Veeshan%27s_Peak
I now know that the wiki does not how to get the key to VP, however, it has a typo of Parts of Truth generically listed.

So all this effort, and in the end, I had to go Quest->Item to find it.

So the quest lookup trick I'm talking about? You just inspect the item in game, profit.

Isn't that awesome? :D

Sub note: Working on the video. Always am. But being a guild leader, you know, and little time with work etc. This project just simplifies my own notes.

Added solo aura
raid aura items
epic 1.0
epic 1.5
epic 2.0
epic 2.5
epic 2.8
and wrote a howto.
I'll keep updating this regularly as I get annoyed about forgetting what X item is for.

Added all charm quests and some Icewell crafted recipies (not for quests, primarily to note items that exist in it, since they spam Icewell)

Great idea this Shin, thank you!

Question: When you say copy and paste the code, where exactly do you copy and paste it to? Can't figure that part out.

Cheers,
