I'm just wondering... I never do this. But back when I played over a decade ago it was pretty common to dispell before casters started to load up debuffs and whatnot.
Is it good practice here or futile/negligible?

Debuff is really a must do and will often decide the success or not of your fight. Chanter, druid and shaman (and mage/necro a little too) are great.
