Solo Guide?

I was reading the new solo boxing guide that cbarrett wrote and found it very helpful. It is a great easy guide for coming up through the tiers and has a lot of good advice for preparing for the next. I started to respond on that thread but thought it might be better as a new topic:

Using the solo boxing guide as a reference, what advice would you give to a truly solo (+bot) player? (tl;dr at bottom)

I started new on the server just about a month or so ago. I have never been good at boxing, and the pc I use to play on struggles with more than 1 client running, so I pretty much solo exclusively. I was pulled in by the use of bots on the server, and so far, I am loving what I have been able to accomplish so far with my pally and cleric bots (I'm a ranger... I know I should probably use my warrior, but main was ranger on live so I wanted to start with something I knew). It's a lot of fun, and even some of the "tedious" tasks don't seem so tedious on this server (I NEVER tradeskilled on live, lol). I know I am probably an extreme minority when boxing is really so easy nowadays, but I do love the server, and have thoroughly enjoyed experiencing even the small sliver of custom content the server has to offer.

So, anyway, there are a few encounters in the guide where it would have been easy for a group to handle at the level that was recommended, but as a solo player is much more difficult. For example, Rowe and Rowi for the Charm 2.0: I could not safely solo those 2 until I was into my 50's and had already upgraded to chaotic armors with some non-vis named drops from guk.

How much higher would the gear/aa/ reqs for these encounters be for a solo player to have a good fighting chance, ie 1.5, solo aura quest, kael, etc.?

Right now I am realizing that LDoN is a real good place for me and I am looking at gearing up there (I am even sitting in the bazaar as much as I can when I'm not playing). I'd like to be able to finish my 1.5 and get the Chardok Royals to get the Charm 3.0 soon.

So in the whole scheme of things is this the route that I should be taking? And how do I know when I am at a good spot to start working on the next tier of encounters?

Sorry for so many questions all at once, I guess it's just the last month of playing and discovering what the server is all at once, lol.

TL;DR: Anybody want to write a truly solo (+bot) guide? :D

I've never tried to solo with only a bot anything past crushbone so I'm not much help sorry. I dont think you will be able to get very far truly solo, you definitely wont be able to do anything in Kael or beyond without serious donator gear.

Hi, As far as being a true solo player you will find that you are going to need help with some content. You will be able to achieve alot by yourself, but it will be later after you have geared past that content.

To progress in the raid tiers you will need to be in a guild. Which I would be looking for a guild as soon as you can. This is a social game and not all content is ment to be soloable. If your not in a guild yet and need help Just ask in /ooc or send me (Airion) a tell if i am on. There are alot of us that enjoy helping.

How much higher would the gear/aa/ reqs for these encounters be for a solo player to have a good fighting chance, ie 1.5, solo aura quest, kael, etc.?

Those are considered group content. The solo aura quest looks to be soloable though I never completed it.

So good luck and happy hunting!

Believe me, I know about it being a social game: I raided top-end content on Live for about 7 years, until about a year ago. Having no time at the moment to play with my guild to do that content is partly why I'm here. I am, by no means, against grouping to get some content done, and I'm even trying to work it out so I can box at least 2 on my machine (thinking ISBoxer will help with that). Just like live, I know raid tiers are out of reach, but I wanted to see how much I actually could accomplish solo.

For example, I have been able to take down the unicorns for my 1.5, but I think I need a few pieces of LDoN gear and my full defensive aa's to be able to take on Terrorantula and the other 3 Bosses for the next step. (buying a Frostblade and Flameforge Hammer in the bazaar really helped my dps also).

Thanks for the tips guys. I guess when I get stuck and I can't solo anymore, I'll write up something about my experience. :) Like I said, I'm still having a lot of fun doing what I can as a solo player.

Some classes can solo+bot into the raid tiers, but you'd probably need at least one donator - one example is the SK using their donator weapon v1.

You'd need a lot of patience though.

Another non-donor option is to farm plat from sebilis/ldon until your eyes bleed. The best bazaar gear available (plus the top radiant crystal armor sold from vendors in vale) are roughly equivalent to t6 gear or better in some cases. Using said items on yourself + bot, playing smartly, and using the right class/bot combo, you can probably get past tier 2 and halfway through t3 solo.

LDON gear and augs can make stuff that is about T5 quality, and the gear and augs you can get with radiant crystals will make gear that is T6-T7 quality. By farming those, both which you can do solo+bot easy, you can make a huge gear jump over the content. This will allow you to solo the raid stuff but as a ranger with a cleric bot you prob wont get much further than T3.

You might also look at the donor legs, they proc a very powerful lifetap and rangers get both spell and heal crit AAs making them even more powerful for rangers and bst. This will allow you to tank with your ranger.

Also join a guild!

It's certainly worth a try, just to see how far a solo player can get with a bot and no donors :D A curious experiment. I'd *think* with full radiant crystal armors/holiday weapons/other bazaar gear to fill in the other slots (no easy feat for a new player, would probably take over a month of hardcore farming at least, unless you bought the crystals cheap :P), you could do Vulak (t2 final boss) and some of the T3 bosses, but would seriously lack the DPS needed for the Sleeper. And you'd need to play very very very well, using all the right clickies at just the right time :P

Of course, you'd need to start a guild just for the purpose of entering those zones ;) But Lillu would happily accommodate that! I applaud your enthusiasm and work ethic! If you ever need help, or questions answered, just PM me here or /tell me in game.

Most points have been covered above. Just wanted to mention that a Ranger/Cleric combination will limit you further still.

It's not premium DPS and no tanking. If you played a tank, you'd have low DPS. If you can play an extra character, that will help you greatly and give you more options. However, your choice of bot will have its own limitations. Healer = not good enough for hard content. DPS means you don't get to play the ranger and tank isn't ideal as the tank is the most important aspect of an encounter and needs to be played.

Your ideal set up would be playing a tank and healer with bot DPS (recommend a rogue). With Ldons, help from others, perhaps the odd donation (no need to go nuts, but having the tank donator weapon makes a big difference), buying gear from the bazaar and a ton of patience, you'll be able to progress quite well enough.

If you were able to achieve T4, you could even solo the new 3.0 quests for really nice weapons.

Cleric bot wouldn't necessarily be used for heals, but primarily for curing dots (from that water dragon thing in ToV, Vulak, etc.) Ranger with 2x holiday weapons (proc KoL2) + KoL augs from LDoN + Heal AAs + Max Defensives + Proc Affinity should do a half-decent job of staying alive, armor permitting (like RC armor stated above.) Just expect looooooong nail-biting fights.
