Hardware question

Just for fun, I tried to box 18 chars (3 full group).

WinEQ2.0, MQ2, 2 THF installations (main ~600Mo RAM + toon ~400Mo RAM), 1920x1080 for everyone on a i5 4670K, 16Go RAM, SSD, geForce 560Ti and Win7.

My toons run pretty good, around 30fps when focused.

My main dropped under 10fps, no matter in which zone he is, if there is other people or not.

Any suggestion ?

I run similar hardware to you.

i5 3470 3.2ghz, 16gb DDR3 memory, GTX 660 with 2gb vid ram, same resolution, non SSD

Haven't noticed that on main installs (2 clients with full graphics) and between 16 and 22 in secondary install (4-500 mb ram per secondary 7-1gb on mains)

Not measuring exact FPS, but not having any slow down issues unless I leave them running all day and the main jumps over 1.5gb of memory and I'm then bogged down on memory.

*edit to add* I keep all spell effects off and filter everything except the characters own melee dmg. I even keep spell dmg filtered off unless I'm running a parse.

How do you guys go about allocating ram?

You mean limiting the other folder's mem usage? eqclient settings and globalload reductions. The global load I use on the min box folder has 40 lines, full client has 170. Min can be dropped even more, but I like seeing the donor weapons and pets.

I like to learn by trial and error... any links you could toss me to start checking out modifying globalload? I understand conceptually what is being done by it, just not sure how to do so effectively. In terms of eqclient you're talking models, armor, display settings, filters, etc. right?

I'm itching to add a second group (PAL/BRD/CLR/ENC/ROG/BST - see, I've already got the classes picked!) and my only hardware differences are 8GB DDR3 instead of 16 and 1GB video instead of 2. I'd have no problem upping to 16 DDR3, but figure I should test first. :geek:

for my box folder I have the models set to stick figures (only works on SOF and UF I think) filters I keep the same on all.

There was a post on here for modifying global load to a bare minimum, and I think the emu forums had one too.

Ah, yeah, I just found a resource talking about the stick figures - that's really neat. Thanks, Google and I will see what we can come up with. :D

http://www.eqemulator.org/forums/showthread.php?t=25003 is the one that has ALL models global.

The bare minimum for a global load is
GLOBAL LOAD EDIT

Let's rock! In the Slave-EQ file [whatever you named it] find the file named "GlobalLoad.txt." Open this in Notepad++. Clear all the data in that file, just erase it all... go ahead. This will prevent your background instances of Everquest from loading many models, items, objects, and other custom textured graphics from loading.

viewtopic.php?f=204&t=9195

Now in the GlobalLoad.txt type this:

3,1,TFFF,Global_chr,Loading Characters

Save and exit.

now, the patcher overwrites it so you want to make a copy that you can put back in after patching before loading client.

@Nilbus

How many toons do you box plz ?
A guildmate is telling me that there is some kind of CPU limitation with EQ session (CPU affinity and other stuff), I would like to have your opinion ;)
