Installing UF Client Mirrored at THF

Post#1 » Sun Oct 04, 2015 6:40 am

Greetings once again.

After getting a Titanium install working so that I could log in and create a character, I ran into a bug that was confirmed, and it was recommended that I change clients to UF.

I downloaded UF from one of the mirrors here at THF, and it took a few hours for it to download. The directions from http://www.thehiddenforest.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1763 state to simply extract the UF files to a directory of my preference, and then patch the client.

However, the problem is that TheDownloader is not finding the path to the EQgame.exe.

There is no setup file in the UF zip that I downloaded from the mirror here at THF, as there was with the copy of Titanium that I used earlier, and so there seems to be no way to actually install the UF client/game and then patch it.

Either I'm really missing something here, or maybe the UF client download from the THF mirror is missing the setup file.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Should be able to extract the folder out to wherever then copy the thfdownloader into that folder (unless it is already included I haven't checked) then run the downloader

Next to THFDownloader.exe should be THFDownloader.cfg. Could you try deleting the .cfg file and then running THFDownloader.exe?

Thanks for reporting it, and sorry for the trouble - if this resolves your issue (and I think it will) I'll apply the fix to the download mirrors.

Yes, that is exactly what I did. I extracted the UF files from the zip to a file on my /C drive, then ran TheDownloader from within that folder. After several attempts, I deleted all files and repeated the process, to no avail.

Every time I run TheDownloader, it tells me "Invalid Folder: Cannot find eqgame.exe"

Looks just like optional step 4 on this page:

viewtopic.php?f=37&t=10393

Now, in the directory where I extracted the downloaded UF client from THF, there is an executable named eqgame.exe (5104 kb), but its not being recognized by TheDownloader, or I'm doing something wrong.

Its probably something very simple to rectify, but I'm darned if I can figure it out.

OK, some progress.

TheDownloader patched the game after I deleted TheDownloader.cfg.

EQ will now start up, but its in "windowed" mode and the window is huge. It wont let me resize it, and I can't move it high enough on my screen to hit the "accept" button on the EQ User Agreement and Software License.

Its like the game is stuck in a resolution that is not compatible with my screen. Strange.

To enter full-screen mode, try Alt+Enter.
To change the resolution of windowed mode you need to edit eqclient.ini and change these values to match the resolution of your monitor or something smaller than that.

WindowedWidth=1904
WindowedHeight=1001

You're supposed to be able to edit the graphics settings with OptionsEditor.exe that comes with the client, but I get string errors when I do that and I'm guessing everyone else does too with this download. Your best bet is eqclient.ini editing.

Now I'm getting a memory error:

The instruction at 0x0362e086 referenced memory at 0x00000044. The memory could not be read.

Click on OK to terminate the program

Maybe try deleting eqclient.ini and let the client rebuild you a fresh one.

I posted about the memory error before I read your advice about changing the windowed resolution the .ini file.

That seems to have done the trick!

Thanks very much for the input folks.

At the character screen now.

Cheers! The clients can all be rather finicky, so I'm glad things are working for you now.
