So, Chaos...

Hail, Noble Adventurers!

This is not a big deal, but I have a penchant for story-telling, so let me go.

Having time, and a lot of ego, I decided to try Chaos this morning. I have participated in the fight (meaning, watched from the sidelines while someone else did the fight) and felt I could at least give it a go.

It started well (meaning, the zone-in worked and all toons made it in) but then went wrong.

As I maneuvered my people to a staging point Chaos decided to kill a few. I didn't know anything about him running to the edge of the pylons and grabbing people. So, unexpected deaths before I've even gotten started.

I parked my warrior on him to get him off the others, started a cleric going, and tried to rez the few that died while also keeping my eye on the warrior.

I started to lose a few toons as my clerics weren't working well (meaning, both donor hammers were acting up because they are linked to other hotkeys I have)

Inevitably I got everyone in, but many of my DPS pets were dead. (and I don't have the cool stuff to auto buff and equip those monsters)

So, the fight starts, and goes until the reapers spawn. No problem, I ran my sk to grab them, in order to kite. Success, (meaning, I got one) but the others decided to kill a few toons while I adjusted to get them all (meaning, kill a LOT of toons)

Finally I got them off the rest, and kited them for a second until they popped.

Now, many dead toons, lots of absent pets, very low DPS.

BUT, I manage to keep it together, and get people rezzed in and fighting. However, very slow DPS.

Finally, I get to the pylons! Yay, I think, this is the beginning of the end.

Many toons decided to die.

No biggie, rez from cleric BP, and back to the pylon.

Then, duh duh duh.... timeout.

I can't say I was sad, as I was fed up with that fight. Still, I know that killing the pylons wins the event, so I was not happy that I got to that point, only to fail.

What did I learn?

Best to be prepared for the fight before attempting.
Know where my people are as I'm sauntering into a hostile location
Fail faster, or win!
I need to change up my hotkeys.

Thanks for reading!

Sadly, I have not been able to defeat him on my own.

Chaos is... chaotic. For some reason my fight is going well, but then my clerics go on strike. Once their timing is off, and a few die, it becomes musical chairs.

Now, I LIKE musical chairs, but, not in Everquest. Pet's die, so I lose their DPS. Reapers decide they aren't ready to agro my kite, and kill a few instead. I NEVER miss a kite. I was a DRUID on live! (Well, with the SK as my tank, but I still kited the wyverns in my time, and lots of other stuff!)

(There was this one time, with a gnome and flight of eagles....)

But, I digress.

I'm sure it's just a learning curve, but I'm still banking. I am appreciative of those that drag me in to grab the loot they are letting rot, and new spells are nice, but, it's about the kill. The KILL. THE KILL!

There's NOTHING else!

(hmm... maybe I should get that checked out)

Anyway, this is the long answer. NO would have been sufficient.

Truer words have rarely been spoken!

Ahh, Chaos! Chaos, who beats me, laughs at me, makes me cringe, when even partnered with others I seem n00bish, inexperienced, lacking skills, and down right comical.

Chaos, who has consistently mocked me, while living through my efforts to bring him (her?) low. Chaos, a most chaotic fight for me!

Yet, this day, this morning, I found success! :D

Strategies gained from watching others, and fine-tuned from many failures, won the day, but it was not pretty, NO, it was very chaotic, and ugly:

The fight started well, I immediately engaged with my Warrior, a lesser tank in my group, and then moved my group behind him. All is well, and I am fighting.

My druid is primed to cast RGC on the three, and this goes well, until the Reapers.

Ahh, the Reapers.

No, they didn't totally destroy my group, but they did manage to kill 2 before I got them. This is a success, to be honest, and I begin patting myself on the back. The reapers are the hardest part of the fight for me! Sadly, it seems I enjoy making my fights harder, for this is what I did.

As I approached the magical moment when it's time to kill the crystals, I decided, for whatever bone-headed reason that came into my mind, to look at the battle spam so I could see when Chaos becomes invulnerable.

WHY? Why was I thinking I needed this? What possible benefit could there be to do this, when countless Adventurers have told me to minimize it, hide it, get ride of it, and forget about it?

Hubris?

Arrogance?

Stupidity?

All 3?

I know not! I just know that doing so made me lag, oh my GOD, so hard that my screen literally stopped. As I fought to minimize the battle spam, I suddenly became ineffective, and forgot to heal with my druid, and people started to die. NOOOO! I screamed at my screen, as if it cared, or could be intimidated by me. It merely showed me that my efforts were feeble.

NOOOOOO I screamed, and my wife came running into the office to ensure I wasn't in distress. She noticed I was playing and left, but couldn't she see, I WAS in distress. :ugeek:

More deaths, and then I remember I am actually a pretty good boxer. I also remember when I used to look down at the ground when I lagged on live.

A strategy emerges, where I do that, and then I can minimize the screen. I am silly, I am stupid, but I am determined!

My chanter lives, and she weakens the Crystals. One cleric lives, and she rezzes the groups. I am NOT out of this fight!

Oh, but Chaos is teasing me, killing my people at random. I know, they are getting too close to the crystals, but it's still Chaos, always Chaos.

Death, rez, RGC, in cycles too quick to report. Kill, kill, kill.

Piles of bodies, and then both Clerics die.

I shift to another that can rez, and as I do, she dies.

I shift again, and death as I dare to hope.

I shift to my druid, and she dies.

I am furious, crazed, angry at myself for being stupid, but I am still fighting.

No one can stop the deaths, so we fight on. One by one my team drops for the final time, but we fight on

8,,, 5,,,, 2,,,, Two of 16, two left, two fighting, two committed to winning.

The last Crystal is about half when 2 are left, and I hope my Warrior and Sk can survive.

Chaos tries, I respond, living to battle, battling to live, and then, BAM! I win!

It's unbelievable, really! I cannot imagine my luck.

Thank you again to those that have helped, advised, and tolerated my failings.

I must repeat to feel like I know what I'm doing, but I am thankful I can, at least, say I've done it once!

Perhaps you should write narratives for action adventure comic books.....that's pretty good heroic prose!

Legendary Spin Master would be a good title, but I'd say the title could only appear when you have a gnome illusion on....
