Rain of Plasma is only hitting once, and not three times as it says in the description.

This depends on the number of targets you're hitting. I was a bit confused as well when setting up the AA for it but according to the official description of rain type spells in everquest:

"Rain spells (or simply rains) are a unique type of area of effect direct damage spell available to wizards, magicians, druids, and shamans. In brief, rains are direct damage spells that strike a maximum of four times over the course of three "waves" of damage. "

So basically targets get used up so if you hit 4 targets in the first wave then the spell is over. Of course if you have max AA then you'd get 13 total targets over 3 waves. So the next question is, how many targets are you hitting and what AA level to you have?

Will look at the description as well although I think it's just the standard rain spell description.

well attempted to check it in the guild hall, so it does hit more targets there, but before posting i thought of this and tried a previous rain spell. Hitting the dummy all three times. Where as the new spell only hit the dummy once.

Is this a custom change? This seems totally off the wall.

Sorry, some clarification. The function of the rain spells, well I've never seen them work as Rigz translates that text. You always got three waves, and even if you were casting that rain spell on a group of 20 mobs someone pulled, you hit your maximum of four with each wave.

Seems we might of figured it out, the new spell hits more targets, as it's range is 3x the size of the older spells.

I'm just saying what I see in the code, I too thought that 3 waves meant 3 waves, and then when I was testing with multiple targets and not seeing that, I looked at the code and saw that the number of targets was finite. It could be that a few years back eqemu didn't work like that and then subsequent merges "fixed" it. Here's the where I got the above quote: https://everquest.fandom.com/wiki/Rain_(Spell_Type)

Peterigz explanation does agree with the spell description given the EQ Fandom site. Here is a quote:

It is impossible to achieve the full possible damage of a rain spell when fighting a single target. At best, a single target can be hit three times (once during each of the three waves), making the maximum damage of the spell only 75% of what is possible when striking two or more targets at once.

So, if you hit a big group of mob then the spell is effectively reduced to one wave. It seems that in the server program that the 2nd and 3rd waves do occur but they don't do any damage because the Max 4 has been used up.

I also saw an interesting note that said the wizard himself (herself) can be hit by the AoE. So...have any of you wizards taken actual damage from your own spell? Or is that even possible in THF/emu?

I remember on live taking damage from it, but currently on thf not taking damage. And I don't see resist messages. But good thing, i'd one shot myself easy.

As long as we are susceptible to our own spell damage...wouldn't it be neat to have an AA that gradually reduces our damage from "friendly fire"?
