Wizards Mana Burn.

So not having too much play time on this server as a wizard but it strikes me a bit odd that Mana Burn still has a 2 hour recast.

Is this necessary, couldnt this be reduced to 20-30min cooldown?
This wouldnt change/trivialize too much, correct?



This could be one change to help bring casters into the game a little more than melee types, I think its worth discussing.

Anyone have any pro tips or comments on this?

personally i dont see a problem with reducing the timer, however i dont have a clue how much damage manaburn is doing on emu honestly ( wasnt it 2:1 ratio for dmg/mana ?

I tested it today.


With 6000 mana it did 23k damage (non-crit), so potentially 46k with a crit.

Now that seems like a lot but that eats up all your mana as well.

I think the cooldown should be anywhere from 15min-20min.

Its pretty much the same as getting a disc on other melee dps classes.



There arent many Wizards as is so it could be worth tweaking to see how it works under new changes,

I think 30 minutes is definitely more than fair. You made a comparison to melee DPS discs, and their discs are generally 30-40 min reuse timers so that seems perfect to me. It's hard to change AA timers though as far as I know. The monk AA Destructive Force is still merely a cosmetic timer change rather than internal. Maybe Striat can eventually find time to figure it out, I know he's busy with other projects also though :)

That sounds about right.


The only reason I was thinking less than 30min was because I was assuming that wizards were still well below all the melee on dps charts.


But 30min does seem fair, I hope this is an easy fix....yeah, right. :)

would that translate into 46k with 12k mana? (curious is all)

To be honest I really dont know the mechanics behind it.

With 8121 mana I just mana burned for 25890 damage (non crit).



I am not sure how to look at this, currently it seems underpowered because Ether Flame, a normal level 70 spells crits for 23k damage on its one and I am able to cast that about 5 or 6 times (not always critical of course).


Maybe mana burn gets exponentially better with better gear and a higher mana pool.


Either way, I still think reducing the cooldown will be the easiest and best fix.







Also, what are the chances of Wizards getting a super quick DD spell that does normal/average damage at level 70?

This would make them more useful on trash mobs and also able to contribute more when grinding in AA groups and whatnot.

Beside, there are Items in SSra, ToV and ST with click nukes that will make you go WOOOT!

About Mana Burn. The downside of having it deplete all your mana is nil here since you can click and have it restored rather fast. 30 Mins recast however is still something i approve.

I checked the Spellfile and its nothing i can do there. It's in the AA tables somewhere. I will see if i can find it. Anyone have tha /alt activate number?
