Kseskar in City of Mist states that he has other rewards if you do not like the original.

Charitey the monk, handed in the quest reward dagger and did not receive a trade in reward. I was curious if this has been an issue for anyone else.

Heya. Tested the quest and it works fine, not sure how he ate your weapon. The task is repeatable so you should be able to do it again.
