THF updater

For the past couple days, my THF Updater has refused to load. When I doubleclick its icon, a CLI window flashes by quickly and then nothing. The Updater does not appear in the Applications tab in the WIndows Task Manager.

The CLI window flashes too quickly to read unless I spam click it a bunch of times. When I do, I can read an error in it. It says the "network address is invalid". I've already tried redownloading and installing the Updater but no joy.

What do I do now?

I checked the launcher for Titanium, UF and even RoF2. All worked fine. Nothing was changed to the launcher or server side that would affect it lately. Anyone else experience this issue? Did you change anything client side, on your network maybe?

I have by no means mastered the internets, but since I troubleshoot networking issues all day for people I don't really like I will gladly try and help a fellow EQ player. In my experience the "network address Is invalid" error codes are often produced because of misconfigured system files inside the windows operating system. I would love to know if you could ping login.eqemulator.net (66.55.142.2) but it looks like external ping is disabled.

My first instinct here is always malware. I would run three free tools before proceeding with troubleshooting, HitmanPro, ADWcleaner and finally Windows repair tool (In that order). Make sure to right-click and run as administrator.

HitmanPro:

ADWCleaner:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

Windows Repair tool:

If you are lucky your computer was infected and removing the malicious programs/processes/services and then running windows repair fixed everything and you are good to go. If not, troubleshooting gets much more interesting!

If you have tried using these utilities and still get the same error we can move forward with troubleshooting. I will probably ask you 100 questions about your local network but I am confident that we can fix this issue, let me know how it goes!

PS: Make sure to have windows repair tool already downloaded before you run ADWcleaner. I have found errors like this are related to "infected" network adapter settings and when ADWcleaner removes the infections it blows out said network adapter settings. Windows repair tool will fix that.

Looks like one of the services for win7 was not running. Don't know why. My win7 will occasionally not start a service upon bootup. Seems to be a known problem for some users of win7 that happens when lots of at-start jobs collide with each other. Rebooting usually solves it.
