Keyboard Bug

Greetings.

I'm having an issue wherein my keyboard stops functioning while playing on the THF server. This happens only sporadically, and for the life of me I can't reproduce it. My suspicion is that it has something to do with bots, or grouping, or both, but I honestly can't remember if its happened when I was not grouped or not, because its an occasional occurrence (maybe once every other time, or every third time, we play).

Basically, the keyboard no longer functions as it should. Movement keys and all other key binds stop function, however my mouse remains functional. Typically when I'm playing, my wife is playing as well, and she is not having this issue.

If I camp out to the character select screen, the bug goes away and my keyboard functions again. Oddly enough, I can click with my mouse in any chat box to bring up a cursor, and I AM able to type text into the chat box, but otherwise my keyboard remains nonfunctional unless I camp and then Enter World.

Its not a big deal to me, so please take this as simply a bug report and not a complaint.

THF has been a lot of fun for my wife and I the last few weeks, so I simply wanted to pass the bug info along.

Sounds as if you might be experiencing horrendous lag. When you are totally lagged out you can still type something in group etc. but generally what you type is visible to yourself only.

So my guess is that it is not your keyboard really, just lag. There are lots on posts in this forum on tweaks etc. to reduce lag ... might try these if you haven't already.

If it is your keyboard, you might try unplugging the keyboard and plugging it back in while still in game.

Definitely not a lag issue, I've had it happen in zones where there are no other players, and when I'm not fighting, and no lag spikes showing on the meter.

Also, I'm on a laptop, so the keyboard is integrated and not getting disconnected due to a loose cord.

EQ THF is the only program this occurs, so its definitely client or server related. Still can't reproduce it, and hasn't reoccurred since Friday two days ago.

I also play / played on a laptop and I've occasionally had something along those lines happen. It is usually either a result of being in FD and not knowing it (like the raid dummies in guild hall) or hitting the right shift key in conjunction with another key (like holding shift and pressing up to scroll back through things in chat). Hitting the shift key again seem to fix it for me when that happens.

When this happens to me, its because the keyboard has left command mode and gone into text mode inside one of my minimized windows.

For example, I'll want to bring up the map so I will hit M. Nothing happens, so I hit M again, and again nothing happens. So I start opening up some of my minimized windows (like Group Chat or Guild Chat) and one of them will have m's in the text line. So I simply make that window active and hit return and the keyboard will go back into command mode.
