Pet Equipment

I have seen some discussions in here about pet equipment and issues with HoH (extraplanar) damage, etc. I was thinking there might be an interesting solution to this for which a large part of the code is already available to support it in the game.

Currently a lot of players probably limit what they give their pets to the temporary pet gear, or you give them gear that you don't mind losing to some extent, drops you have no use for, etc. but that pet dies, the gear is gone, limiting your pet progression and power, requiring getting new gear on death, etc.

The Bot system in the game (I know, probably hardly anyone uses it once they start boxing) allows you to equip and itemize your Bots (which are like limited pets to some extent). You can gear them, aug them, specialize them.

What I am suggesting is to take advantage of the existing bot system by enhancing it somewhat. Add in a new feature/code function that has a "pet" bot slot that your pet will pull from when summoned or the slot is updated. If the pet dies no big deal the gear is still stored in the "pet" bot slot. This would also make it easier to swap out gear on pets, since there are built in features in the bot commands to do that.

What would be needed is a way to ensure you could have a dedicated pet slot in the bot list, and a way to clone the equipment from the "pet" bot slot into the pet when the pet is summoned, or the slot is updated.

Doesn't even have to be limited to permanent pets... Though another dedicated separate slot for temporary pets would make the currently somewhat useless procced and summoned temporary pets somewhat more viable than they currently are? Maybe some limitations on what equipment slots are copied over for temp pets?

Of note, everyone can have temporary pets, so this feature isn't limited to classes with permanent pets, though of course those classes would benefit as well.

I see lots of wins here, added functionality to pet progression, revitalization of a vast swath of temporary/procced pets spells/abilities, a use for the bot feature for endgame players, maybe even some extra room for growth to the bot features as more players utilize it, etc.

Very interesting thoughts, but I fear this touches the heart of the emu code, I don't know whether it is possible at all. What I do is to have a suspended TankPetdeLuxe and I never accept rezzes to avoid losing TankPetdeLuxe. Of coruse, if that pet dies in combat, I have lost all my investment, so I use it carefully and never in unknown situations. Unfortunately, DI doesn't work on pets although I never tried on an emu server, I should test that with an everyday pet and a cler'ic buddy.

But technically, it is therefore possible to have a suspended pet with middle to high end equipment, the only limitation is you cannot give your pet no drop items and therefore no augmented items.

To give you an exemple, here my current TankPetdeLuxe aka the million pet (donor pet with highest pet focus -Immortal Minion- and full donor buffed + Frenzied Burnout active for tank emergencies, but still lacking Elemental Magnificience, the T9 Noble's Causeway pet buff spell) :

Boots are the hardest part to find. Some of the items I farmed , some I bought in Bazaar, some were gifts from a friend. I really don't wanna lose that pet, so I support the idea of a pet bank, of course. But again, I don't know whether the emu code would permit it.

That said, if you farm Shadow Heaven, you cen get easy obtainable rings/earrings/neck/shoulder/back /range pieces which will already improve your everyday pet and which are far better than summoned focus jewelry.

Honestly, the idea is really great but I'm afraid the execution would be super complex, time consuming and would require heavy custom coding. This idea is definitely bookmarked for the future but can't promise anything.

Thank you Lillu, marked for the future is not thrown into the abyss, it still is a beacon of light in the dark of the night. But we are fully aware of the technical challenge as you underlined.
