Are people finding platinum to have low appeal?

I would like to throw out some constructive ideas I have about in game currency. With the holiday upon us, we're seeing tradable items around, but I am finding people simply don't want my platinum.

Is it possibly we could have some constructive ways to unload this platinum for things that could be useful for us? The AA vendor for random stuff was great, but what do people do to get rid of their plat these days?

I really don't want to pull the devs away from working on 3.0's by any means, but I feel like the platinum economy is absolutely horrible these days. There's simply no want or need to acquire any, and this is something that could go way back on the back burner for less busy times.

In the past, the casino was an excellent source to unload all of that unwanted platinum. Personally, I've probably dumped 7 million or more into it over the years, but these days the rewards simply do not justify me spending any money what-so-ever. Most people have little to no use for the LDoN point rewards either, since after leaving T6, there are zero items with a type 1 aug slot and there's no type 1 augs to be found. The rewards for the golden tickets are so outdated, no one that has any amount of money would likely use any of them on any alts even. I do think the casino or any other game of chance is an excellent way to give better value to platinum, however, but how about some better rewards that people of any tier would find enticing? Tradable items go a long ways, the holiday augs from any season are usually a hit too.

Anyone else have any suggestions to help make platinum a wanted commodity again?

Why yes I do...

1. Casino - Different Games, Updated Prizes. This has amazing potential to be really fun and a way to help get rid of the trillions of platinum sitting in peoples banks.

2. Making Lillu's Magical Distillers tradeable and purchasable with platinum- There's a total of 89 donation packages and items, do they really need to be a donor item? yes yes, I know I can buy them for 150AA, but that takes an extremely long time to pharm, especially for new players. yes, I know I can get them during holiday events, but those only come 3-4 times a year.

There are just soooooo many augs in the game and they are such a big part of it that I really think this should be highly considered. 25k each or less would be appropriate.

3. Give the 3.0 quests an item you must purchase for 500k

4. Make more items tradeable

Like Melkor said, update reward in casino with some interesting aug (+100ac, new healing effect, kiss of life III, etc...) and farming plat will be our new goal !

Give some plat to an NPC to add a aug slot on armor.

I hope these plat eliminating discussions are going to be focused on super high tier players.

It's only because of the Christmas events that I have any plat at all. Before the Christmas events I was in T3 working on defeating the Sleeper, and trying to complete my 2.0 for all 12 toons. I had about 3k TOTAL plat and each and every time I needed a 15k temper I had to go to Sebilis and farm gems for it. Nobody wants/need the lower tier tradeable stuff (a few exceptions of course).

The Christmas events gave me something useful to sell. Before that, the best I could offer was a Token of Kerafyrm but most people dont want that they want Token of Xegony at least. I ran the bear prince quest 25 times and generated 800k. That quest gave us lower tiered folks something *useful* and *wanted* to sell to other people.

My point is, having massive amounts of plat is a higher tier issue. Without holiday events the lower tiered folks have to go to sebilis and farm it. If you want to make the epic 3.0 a T8 or T9 item and force people to spend 500k on "tempers", thats fine. Jacking up the prices on existing items makes me cringe, I sincerely hope that is not going to be part of the solution. I'm working on elemental gear for 12 and it's going to cost me about 500k in stones if I gear out all my toons w/o skipping to the next tier and staring all over with even more expensive armor quests.

It's not that I want to see plat become a requirement for anything in particular. I'd actually like to see one thing requiring it changed. *cough potactics* (Make it a purchasable key/flag or something from prez please? ;p)

I do think it'd be a good idea to have some kind of quest piece for 3.0 to be purchased for a high price as a bottleneck of sorts. When you've been around the server for years, you just kind of end up with plat everywhere and you run out of things to attempt to spend it on.

But the plat problem as a whole is that after your 2.0, we're just inundated with it and some of us older/higher tiered players simply have no place to put it other than let it stack up in our banks. Vanity items are great. The idea of being able to change raid auras for a price was an awesome idea too imo, we need more plat sinks though to possibly give it actual value to people.

Some kind of rewards from casino that are unique to only there or only obtainable through purchasing something via platinum would be great. Tradable items that are in demand are good too. I also like Melkor's idea of Lillu's distillers being purchasable. Many of us reach a point where gear is kind of whatever or at the point of side-grades or buying donors and our main source of upgrades is primarily through augs alone.

Until such time the casino has new attractive items to spend money on, in addition to ...

Uber bored T8+ player says in ooc "Anyone need any help?"

you can also do this:

Uber bored T8+ player says in ooc "Hey I just bought 200 Moug's Purchased Stone and put them in the bazaar for 1 plat each!! First come first serve!!"

Hey I can dream.

As previously stated, new items from the casino. Possibly close to a donor aug that are non-tradeable / lore. Allow the player to choose from one of 3 items but able to obtain all three (Primary/Secondary/Range, Viewable Armor Pieces, Non-Viewable armor pieces)

Spells/Discs/Items that can only be bought from a vendor also non tradeable / no drop. Maybe do ranks with increasing effectiveness / damage / length with regards to price. For instance Tier 1 of new SK defensive discipline is 2.5k, T8 is 250K. Maybe clickable nuke item for casters same type of thing T1 starts at 5k and t8 is 500k.

100% res potions, stackable, non-tradeable, 1 hour recast timer?
Mana potions, stackable with all other mana buffs - 2 hour duration?
Other potions that do not have a donor / spell / item equivalent - something like luck of the vaion - +3-5% to the rare drop rate of a mob (we can dream can't we?)
Buyable food / water with nice stats or focus bonus

Any highly sought after tradeable items are not moving platinum at the moment hence the issue. Currently players are packaging multiple sought after tradeable items (xmas augs, xmas T8 loot, chaos access) looking for donors since those items will always be best in the game.
A few of the suggestions above can be negated by donors (wiz donor weapon + mana wrist = never run out of mana)

Another thought - 1 time only per character 10 million plat for $5 - 10 off a donor item

500K for the 3.0 seems extremely high since the 2.0 temper was 15k. While some people may have 10+ million in the bank others in T8 may only have 100-200K depends on their playing habits, etc. I know I have never been above 1 million at any given time, in fact until the xmas events started I was under 100k and play almost nightly.

I like a lot of the ideas written here. To add to those:

Buyable...

+ Clicky items with limit charges, having abilities that are sought after. I.e. 5-dose Feign Death potion. 5-dose Call of the Hero potion. Could maybe even delve into some donor item spells like 5-dose Immortality or 5-dose Sune.

+ Plat-buyable AA potions which can then be used to buy Lillu's Distillers. Would be a round-about way of turning plat into distillers.

+ Altering some flagging quests for Tiers 1-9 to incorporate platinum would be another way to deflate the economy. The 3 no drop heads needed to advance from DSK1 to DSK2 could required a 10k box to combine them in.

I personally haven't had much use for money after buying armor in Veeshan's Peak. That was the last time I really didn't have enough and had to farm.

something like those items from PoTatics that give 5min boosts to dmg or healing but bought with pp b/c those PoTatics things take a long time to farm and make.
