so I'm just gonna say it: the wiki needs some SERIOUS work

everybody's been thinking it: the wiki (in its current state) is in horrible shape

-many of the pages are incomplete (more red links than I care to see)
-it's weirdly organized at times, and there are a quite a few pages that could be combined/split/streamlined to be easier to use
-little info on content beyond T6
-sparse quest guides (half of them are on the forums)
-the class pages are basically useless, they should have info on how the class plays, basic pros and cons, notable spells, and where it fits into raiding.

deeper than these issues however, is what do we (as a community) want the wiki to be? is it supposed to be a resource or a strategy guide? is there to help you out or give you the answer?

at any rate, something needs to be done with the wiki. it seems our current options are to
1) open up editing so anyone (or at least registered forum users) can add/edit content without having to apply for privileged (people are lazy, it's true) or 2) hire an individual/team to gather community input and make the necessary changes (may have to pay them, but it would be worth it)

the problem we're having is that people AREN'T doing that. why? because people are lazy and don't want to jump through hoops just to fix a few lines or redo a page layout.

is (was?) vandalism such a problem that we can't keep it open for free editing (even if it were restricted to all registered forum users rather than by application only)? not that it should matter, our community is small enough that it could be easily policed. do we even have a wiki admin? a person on staff responsible for maintaining the wiki.

there are alot of neat things we could do with the wiki. player/guild pages would be a cool addition, or a list of illusion clickies or whatever. the point is, people aren't contributing and I personally think it's because the wiki is not so easily edited.

The THF dev's have allready stated that the wiki is there for the community to update.

I have no interest in updating the wiki becuase: (Yes I have a list of excuses!)

1) I work in a data-centre for my full-time job. I want to PLAY not work
2) I am lazy
3) My keyboard is faulty
4) My screen is faulty
5) My Internet is faulty
6) MY wife will not allow me to edit wiki's
7) I have a wiki phobia
8) Firenze said he will unleash his 'Firenze-ness' on me if I edit the wiki
9) Grey said he would never use an illusion and allways stay halfling if I edited the wiki
10) I cannot understand English when faced with a wiki page
11) I have a rash that only gets worse when i edit wiki's
12) It's somebody else's job
13) I did edit it, it was fine so I left it alone
14) I thought THF was a picnic site, not a MMORPG
15) I am not able to take your call at the moment, please leave a message after the beep..

well, as far as difficult to get access to edit the wiki, that's super easy and is even explained right on the 1st page of the wiki. Simply PM Micah.

After that is the real work though, looking up the info and editing the pages. If people are too lazy to PM Micah, they certainly are going to be too lazy to put in the work required to create or edit a entry or page on the wiki.

As for me, after playing on THF for couple years now, i know most of the quests and drops etc by memory, so personally i don't use the wiki and don't want to put in time to work on it. Like Bishbash i don't enjoy that sort of thing, others do though. I try to contribute to the THF community by helping players in game or on forums.

If you do enjoy looking up info, writing strats and creating links etc, and want to contribute to the wiki, just PM Micah and start wiking away! But trying to rally everyone to get to working on it *cracks whip* or asking the staff to pay someone to do it (LOL) is just not going to happen. Those that do want to contribute to the wiki can and do, and those who don't, don't.

It seems like it would be less work than typing out a series of posts about why it's a problem. I agree that some areas of the wiki could use work, but I don't have time to devote to it right now so I don't complain!

no need to be a jerk about it, if you're so hell bent on getting this wiki fixed, then why are you here making a post complaining about it rather than just doing it. you might just be too lazy and want other people to do it though.

Ainna recently added a lot of material to the wiki. so it is happening.

I wish I has the time to devote to the wiki because even I use it from time to time when looking up quests and things that I may not know off the top of my head. But I don't. If anyone wants to help fix up the wiki, then simply PM any dev and we can set up access to allow you the right to edit the pages.
