Slow server connection

Over past 3 days have had a problem specifically with the server and forums etc. on THF. Sometimes need to hit the submit button a few times to bring up the next screen on forums and occasionally server not found pops up.

When I zone my boxes often 1-3 of the 9 I box don't make the zone and need to be restarted. Don't know what's causing this or if there is anything to do from my end. I'm located in New Mexico. I do know, from the news, that there is a possible world wide slow down...perhaps this is particularly messing with the connection twixt me and the server.

I have run a speed test, and it appears that my Rx speed is about 5 gig. Tx is about .5 gig

Any suggestions on how to ameliorate this would be appreciated.

Do you live in a home owners association? Some have ISP restrictions and throttling.

If all other sites work fine then you can confuse your ISP with a proxy service.
Thanks for the memories.

Thanks for the idea but no, have a separate home and a separate connection.

Gah, no fun a half hour to zone the boxes every time or more. Been on phone with isp, no apparent problem there, donno what's different, nothing at my end...

Just to confirm the other side, nothing changed server side either, other than we have 0 crashes lately. (<3 Vaion)

So I guess as 99% of the time, the connection problem lies in between the client and server.

Did you try to purge your dns cache? Run /ipconfig flushdns in command prompt.

Thanks for the idea Lillu, just tried flushing. So far no improvement. Been on for 2 hours and maybe played for a half hour, gah.

When I get to the server select menu I'm getting server timeouts and "an unknown error occurred when trying to join the server".

I use isboxer, so I tried it without isboxer. Same problems but maybe a bit worse. Not sure what the deal is, joining forum is more speedy now than previously. I'll keep digging but I'd guess your assessment is correct...some connectivity issue twixt here and there.

some people were complaining about lag today and wanted micah to reboot the server. Micah pointed out there were 3 out of 380 people that had that problem so no dice. he got bitched at. for the record, i agree with micah on that

Well the problem seems to have spontaneously disappeared this evening with no reboot on the THF server side and no change on my side, so Lillu's comment seems to be the most likely explanation for the problem...somewhere along the route from my computer to the server there was a problem...

That's true for 99,999% of all network problems. The other 0.001 percent will be posted in advance in 99,999% of all cases :D
