CPUAFFINITY

Post#1 » Thu Sep 05, 2013 4:37 pm

Things seem to load faster with me using windows 7 when all cores on an i5 are used to load every instance of Everquest.

Sony added the ability for EQ to set its affinity to all cores when starting up. This can be done by modifying the eqclient.ini value for the instance to -1. For example, to set your second instance of EQ to run on all cores add "CPUAffinity1=-1" to the [Defaults] section of eqclient.ini.

so in my eqclient.ini I have:

CPUAffinity0=-1
CPUAffinity1=-1
CPUAffinity2=-1
CPUAffinity3=-1
CPUAffinity4=-1
CPUAffinity5=-1
CPUAffinity6=-1
CPUAffinity7=-1
CPUAffinity8=-1
CPUAffinity9=-1
CPUAffinity10=-1
CPUAffinity11=-1
CPUAffinity12=-1
CPUAffinity13=-1
CPUAffinity14=-1
CPUAffinity15=-1
CPUAffinity16=-1
CPUAffinity17=-1
CPUAffinity18=-1
CPUAffinity19=-1

Something in EQ I think wants to keep changing my eqclient.ini back to the original settings on CPUAFFINITY. Changing the file to read only gets around this.

Let me know if this works for you folks. I have a UF client.

Settings CPUAFFINITY0=-1 for all affinity entries resulted in abysmally slow loadtimes for me (Underfoot Client). I'm going to go back to alternating cores (using an i7 here) so that it reads:

CPUAFFINITY0=1
CPUAFFINITY1=2
CPUAFFINITY2=3
CPUAFFINITY3=4
CPUAFFINITY4=5
CPUAFFINITY5=6
CPUAFFINITY6=7
CPUAFFINITY7=1
...and so on...

I'm reserve core 0 for OS operation and 1-7 for the game. Much smoother for me, that way.

Well I have an I5 on a windows 7 OS. Works faster for me....my advice is to try it and take whatever works best.

Like this post - Tried loading back up yesterday after a few months away and it literally killed my PC loading 12 windows. Odd since I had no issues at all running them before. Will look into the affinity.

Have you tried:

viewtopic.php?f=126&t=13620

(if none of this works PM me to /tell me in game. I'll do what I can to fix it)

control over CPU use remains the major reason why I use isboxer. Isboxer allows assigning specific CPU cores to characters...so you can give more cores to your favorite tank and bard and just give a couple to casters etc.
