[poll] timesink

The main problem for a game is that how to make a player busy, to stay, to play (and well on original servers to pay), but still have fun. Here in this poll I would like you to make votes on what makes you happy in this game, so this may be taken into consideration for future developments. If you do not see your favorite(s) here, please do a post, without flame or drama, but constructive. If possible do not tell us what you would not like, because not that is the question here.

Chose more if you like.

Some details for the poll:
- grinding is familiar to anyone: when you do something for long-long time and repetatively. I personally would not start developments what makes you able to grind faster, but if demanded. Grinding exp, AA or trades, whatever.. will perhaps want to fix AA-s priority to any other if I see lots of peeps like to grind.
- if you like questing as timesink we might do more quests, or harder ones, or longer ones, not just go here and bring me two rat whiskers, because they do suck. Perhaps quests like "qeynos badge" series would help out.
- trades are good to do, if demanded perhaps trades could be more worth for the time. Depends on constructive posts here and on other topics in this forum. You do not need to repeat yourself, perhaps a link and highlighted quotes can help too.
- pvp can be fun, at least I experienced such over WoW - ok, say: it is a gay game, but has it's fun parts too. Perhaps we could put some PVP into EQ?
- PVE tactics would perhaps show that you need more NPC AI, to make fights more interesting then just standing and swinging swords..
- what about PVE? exploration? LDON? etc.?

You will se lots of similar choices - yep, big deal?

I would like to ask for good suggestions. Soonish bugs get fixed, server will be stable, perhaps it would be a great time to see where you peeps want us or well me to go with the code with quests and such. No huge wishlists tho'.. this we do in our free time, and we have a family a job and such, so stay on ground.

Thanks :)

You didnt list it as an option, but I'm gonna crawl up on my soapbox for this one.

Timesinks are all well and good, but let's look at something here. This server is becoming more and more popular, with new players creating characters and joining every single day. Quested Timesinks that were created with a player population of around 100 may become hellaciously bottlenecked, congested and just basically unpleasant to deal with when, NOT if, the population gets closer to 200 active players online. I shudder to think how bad these timesinks could become when we get almost 300 active players, and I'm tough to shake up, I have teenagers!!!

Now that I've pointed out that possibility which I'm sure all of you Devs have probably taken into consideration, let's go on to CrazyCat's WishList for THF.

1: More solo-based content, pleasepleaseplease. One player, one bot. That player should not have to be geared in high-end armorstuff. I am a firm believer in Player Freedom of Choice, and that does include the choice to NOT be required to join a guild for the sole purpose of having access to all of the pretty shiny things that drop in the guild-instanced zones. Case in point, I'm one of the most anti-social players on the server. I admit it openly. With my workschedule and the upcoming holidays, if and when I log into the game, I generally have a purpose in mind, a definite goal that I want to be able to achieve in the limited time that I have available to me that day. Or I may just want to go and plow through a bunch of mobs and cause as much death and destruction as I possibly can so I don't feel the need to snarl at a supervisor or coworker when I get to work. Either way, another player or two could conceivably slow me down and I don't want to have to change my plans at the last minute just because the quest that I have in mind requires more than one player and their bot.

2: A tradeskill hub. I know we have the Vale, and it was a great addition, especially with the LDoN theme. But it becomes so laggy and crowded at times that it's hard to move, much less click on the vendor or container that is needed. Maybe an area with -just- the tradeskill containers like forge/loom/kiln etc, the neccessary vendors, a banker for the absent-minded people like me who left something vital in the bank, and a porter-fairy to take us back to either the Vale or Forest. Tradeskill quest NPCs could be added as needed.

3. More player mounts, please. Make 'em questable, just not a humungous timesink.

I have more wishes and wants and whines, but none of them are as coherent as those three ideas. Thanks for the chance to squeak up. Now I need more coffee.

*hugs all around*
I need a scorecard to keep track of all of my alts!!

Frist off I love the idea of PVP...in aspects of kinda how wow does it... or even how they used to do the BotB torney's where they allowed everyone to come just made rules where certin items/clickies/skills where not allowed to be used. The monk BotB was fun b/c it was a complete naked bear fists brawl to start and pirzes where fun to lol.

Now timesinks are nice but i have to agree with cat on this they are becoming to bottlenecked, in terms of the onese we have currently on server. I'd like to see some more solo timesink quests maybe with a reward that would benifit the non raider as well as a longer harder quest option after the orginal for the raiders. Kind of like headhunter is now maybe?

Also Solo based content, more zones its getting harder to aa and level with no mobs up lol, please!!!! Maybe open up some zones to make them low level raid/group zone that just causeal players can group up and go into. If you remember me and milein's idea for Santus Seru maybe something like that? A full group based zone with quests and items to help the causeal player since im aware alot of people cant handle the named mobs in Ssra.

These have been just a few of the items on my wishlist!

I could list a few more timesink options too, but yeah, let's hear everyone's thoughts.

I agree with many thing Cat said above. We'll focus a more on the solo/group content.

In regards of PvP which was one option i voted for and imho PVE Endgame Gear/Donator gear shouldn't affect it at all and if something like that would be implemented it would need to handled more like Alt-P than.

In regards of Quest lines i loved the 10th ring quest line lots stuff you could do by yourself some group content and the Final fight that required back than a Raid/Zone to help finish it.
If i compare it now the Aura line here i am a bit more frustrated with it since even though i love Vaion's work i don't agree with how he handled the quest so far Groundspawns shouldn't be used as a Bottleneck especially if everyone has/need the same Groundspawn item.
If it would be class/role specific i could agree.

LDoN personally i would love to see a LDoN PvE instanced Arena added that basically lets you do Ring event style fights to obtain LDoN points and where you can decide i am done or do i want to fight another event directly in the instance.

To be honest: this is a discussion, so those few more options are to be listed here.

I agree with this completely, and think that would be great to have pvp completely separate from the main THF line. That would take a lot of work though, and balancing. The issue with PVP on emu most of the time is that the gear is just so good, that warriors become unkillable and OP.

In regards to the donator items, it's the same thing. Donator items are just so powerful, especially the weapons, that it gives a huge advantage in PvP that wouldn't otherwise be there. It's no fun leveling up in PvP when you have to deal with ppl who have 1k hp on 1 weapon =)

This would be a great addition though, if there was ever time to do it. An Alt P with items that are not as good as the main THF line (less resists, etc etc.), and where all players are flagged PvP (Is it possible to do it zone based?) would be fun!

I voted for PVP , because I love it and played for years on zeks

Even if I know thats not possible atm.

Balancing class/resist would take ages.
Actually with the current resist check , a wizard can instant kill anyone with just epic 1.5

What you could do is a Jouxt tournament : Gladiators .
Exemple : you create a level 1 warrior and zone into "the arena 2" ( alternate zone)

Once you have zoned in your char become level 70 , get a jousting weapon like tantors tusk and some Cobalt armor . this char should be flagged only for "the arena 2" .
No way to come back in the thf world.

Fight starts :

Paladin001 Gladiator of Firenze. vs Paladin002 Gladiator of Gwynraven (exemple)
if you win and kill someone in "the arena2" you loot a token that is resold for like 10ldon points.
add a banker in the arena 2.
once you won a fight , you give your Gladiator Master ( Main char ) the token via the Shared bank .

Would be a fun way to get some pvp w/o having to readjust every resist etc etc on the server.
Firenze of VallonZek <Europea>

Gwynraven

I am glad that many of you would like PVP, because that needs new ideas and skilled players, and it seems we do have both here. I am AFK for like a week from my dev-computer, but will make some plans in this direction, perhaps start new polls to make you think and suggest more. I think good PVP system could refresh the grind-nerves of yours, since fighting agains a human is always more exciting.

Thanks for the suggestions - keep them comming.

PVP in EQ really isnt all that interesting really. Its good for a few laughs but thats it.

My pvp experience in EQ has been press button, move around and hope you dont get hit by sword, axe, whatever else.

Not really an inspiring mechanic.

Shadowbane was awesome PvP though. You cause some real pain to players on that server, loved every bit of it.
