Win Vista / 7 - hotkeys do not save

This topic has cropped up a few times in ooc this week.

Issue: You create a hotkey / social and when you log in the next day the hotkey is not there. Either you created it in game or inside the ini file.

Assumed fact: You installed eq to the default location, C:\Program Files\Everquest - or whatever the default would look like.

Solution: Move the eq folder. Windows Vista / 7 by default have write protection to the Program Files folder and a few others not related to this discussion. C:\EqTHF would be a good place and name for your thf install of eq. Another drive would be good as well.

Another useful thing you might need/want can be found at the following link for windows 7 users.

If you have uac enabled and forget to run as admin you can run into the same issue where the .ini file is not saved upon edits being made.

Another reason hot keys/socials/ui changes won't be saved from session to session -

People /q or /exit out instead of /camp ing out after making changes. It only needs to be done once, and then you can /q, etc, to your hearts desire.

As far as the UAC goes, the easiest way to avoid that issue (if you don't care to disable it) is to go to the exe file, click on properties, and simply set it to run as admin full time. Problem solved.

True but that doesnt always work. At least using the default shortcut. It annoys the ever living **** out of me that even with that box checked my program does not run at elevated permissions. /sigh.
Wish I knew what stupid fluke was causing that to happen. Oh wait its called Windows.

7 is really a pain for that reason, I was shocking my head to a wall when I couldn't edit my ini files when I first installed eq. I ended loading my old comp , just copy eq to the new comp desktop and tada !
