How to play without buying a copy of Eq

Hello,

I was just wondering if there is a way to play THF without needing to pay for Everquest.
In other words, is there a way I can play this server for free? I know that Everquest went free-to-play but I was told that the free client will not work for this server.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tim

I believe work is currently underway to support the new, free release client as it allows for greater functionality and customization within the "game." But I'm not sure as to the status of this initiative...

If you want to play now, I would recommend [....] find yourself a copy of one of the supported clients.

Another good place to BUY a good copy of everquest for SOD or UF is from Steam if it is still available.

There hasn't been any version of EQ1 available on Steam for a few months now. We are hoping they will add a new client there at some point, but there is no way to be sure if they will or not.

The F2P client is fairly functional, but definitely not nearly as playable as the officially supported EQEmu clients. If Steam ever does get a new client for EQ1 on their site, it shouldn't take long for us to get it caught up with our other compatible clients. It is just hard to be motivated to put a ton of work into the F2P client as it is updated regularly and could drastically change at any point which would make all of that work useless.

I am really hoping that Steam will get a client for Eq1 sometime, that would make it easier for me.

I really cant find any of the supported eq1 clients on Ebay. The only one I could find costs $100, and thats out of question.
