Important Differences Between Clients?

I am wondering if there are any important differences in playing on THF depending on your client. We played on live through SoF and still have all our boxed retail discs, including a Titanium client when we added another boxed toon to our set.

We had read that generally EQEmu is more stable with Titanium than other clients, so that is what we installed, but some chatter in /ooc got me thinking about the AA list and other elements that might be different in other clients.

So now we have two questions:

1. If we were to install a different client, would it make any difference in terms of available AA, spells, UI functions, or other elements of actual gameplay? Does the SoF client open anything up on THF that the Titanium client would not?

2. Is one actually significantly more stable than the other? I have had some CTD problems with Titanium (much more on my SK than my wife has had on her Druid).

Thanks much to all for any replies.

I think that SoD is > than Ti for a 3 reasons, albeit not game changing, but good to have.

1. Zones MUCH faster than Ti.
2. Money has no weight.
3. You have no AA pre-requisites, meaning you dont have to spend 6 in general, 12 in archetype, to get to the class section.

I just woke up but yes there are some serious differences between the clients.
Like HoT is kind of supported but for myself and others it tends to chain crash before it'll finally let you start logging characters in.
Seeds while better then titanium has some issues that were never fixed that annoy me.
Still Seeds > TI/SoF/UF

I've found SOD to be more stable than titanium, a fair bit faster, has an improved interface, and better features. Handles widescreen windows better too.

However the singlemost important reason to use SOD is that it has a loot all button.

SoD has more features but is still a work in progress on full implementation w/ thf and emu in general.

The HP glitch is the main thing that keeps me using titanium since most features are convenience and don't really change much where as seeing myself at 95% hp all the time because it doesn't put you at 100 even though you are full health is too annoying for me =p

SoD also occasionally has issues purchasing AAs to where you will either have to revert to a previous client to buy the AA then load SoD back up, or have someone w/ an older client load you and do it for you.

I am sure there are a list of other things that are still causing issues w/ SoD, but when push comes to shove SoD is implemented enough to where its features do outweight its flaws unless its flaws are something that irritates you enough like me.

Have to consider SoD is a client that is much much much more recent than titanium, so at its core has a lot more fixes/optimizations/changes for the better even if not all of them are made of use w/ emu.

The only other thing I can think to add is in the SoD client you cant sell back ldon aug drops for points, though I use both clients when I have to, heh.

I've also noticed that I can't shrink using SoD/SoF/UF, though it works fine in Titanium...annoying if you're playing one of the larger races. Illusions also will change your look but not alter your size.

One of the major drawbacks I have had to deal with on the UF client (not sure if any others are affected) is the fact that an inventory clicky makes the spellbar grey out for the usual 2 seconds after being clicked. I'll probably be downgrading from UF back to titanium because of this.

That is odd, because I can shrink using SoD client. (real sod, not the UF version)

Here is a list of features added for the SoF+ clients that should make them a pretty obvious client choice.

http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka.ph ... ntFeatures

Personally I run SoD because it is the best all-around client, but UF is nearly as good as SoD as long as you copy over all of the missing files mentioned in the EQEmu Wiki Playguide.

As far as being fully supported, SoD is the top client currently and has been for quite a while. SoD should be caught up to (and surpassed) Titanium as far as compatibility with EQEmu goes. Since Titanium is considerably older than any of the newer clients, EQEmu development is now more focused on the newer clients. Titanium will always be supported, but it is now lowest priority and does not get all of the updates that some of the other clients get due to missing features or missing packet information for the client to be able to implement certain features.

Most of the bugs mentioned with SoD or UF in this thread are not ones I am familiar with in the current state of EQEmu. Keep in mind that THF runs custom code and is not current with the EQEmu source, so that may be why some issues are seen here that could already be fixed on the current SVN. Also, THF has the rule disabled that lets characters use the correct HP/Mana/Endurance formulas for SoD+ clients, which is why you guys show HPs at less than 100%. If you can talk Lillu into enabling that rule, it will resolve that issue. It would basically mean about a 1k HP advantage at max level for using an SoD+ client, which I don't personally think is that huge of an advantage considering the stats most characters will have by the time they reach max level. For a server that is based 100% on Titanium content, I can understand why the decision to enable that rule might be tough. As more and more people start making the switch to the newer/better clients, that rule change may become an easier decision.

I know THF already has custom files for updating weapon models to allow them access to more content, but there is a ton more content available by actually using the new clients (new zones, NPC races, etc).

I would be interested to see the output of a "#cvs" (client versions) GM command on THF. That shows how many of each client are currently logged on. Currently, about 90%+ of my players are on SoF or later and most of them are SoD.
