Re: Mage Parse Results

Then here's another parse, using lvl 10, 17 and 26 rains + Mana flare III

Cazic Thule Dummy on 10/06/2010 in 360sec

Total
--- DMG: 1268629 (100%) @ 3524 dps (3524 sdps)

Eskarina
--- DMG: 793038 (62,51%) @ 2209 dps (2203 sdps)

Kober
--- DMG: 444390 (35,03%) @ 1238 dps (1234 sdps)

Eskarina`s pet
--- DMG: 31201 (2,46%) @ 347 dps (87 sdps)

That was mana-free DPS. I did get quite a few resists, but since the Fennin dummy is in rain range, and I didn't debuff it, I suspect he generated the most of them. Silly I got the numbers. Fennin 1385 dps from me alone, Cazic 2209 dps

The same on a lesser target :

Vlar on 10/06/2010 in 363sec

Total
--- DMG: 1392900 (100%) @ 3837 dps (3837 sdps)

Eskarina
--- DMG: 898120 (64,48%) @ 2488 dps (2474 sdps)

Kober
--- DMG: 454983 (32,66%) @ 1253 dps (1253 sdps)

Eskarina`s pet
--- DMG: 39797 (2,86%) @ 208 dps (110 sdps)

No resist at all.

By the time I get to actually fry Ugly-Face, I'd certainly have a higher brilliance that would lower the little gap I got between Cazic and Vlar. Again, that was mana-free.

So this tells me most of our damage comes from Mana Flare when we aoe. Perhaps the different levels should be scaled in price at the ldon vendor then to reflect the advantage?

I'd rather say this tell what mana flare brings but yeah... it does bring a lot to rains. I think I could break 4K on Cazic with strong rains (would take a magic focus though)

Oh, heck, I didn't want to answer that yesterday, but now I certainly do.

Harney wrote:Rains won't be a factor high end, they have a 0 resist check, which means any raid mob that you're fighting is going to resist it every single time, not allowing you the chance for MF to proc. On trash and newb mobs, sure, it's the best choice... but for any raid setting, there's no way it's used.

I didn't hear any comment to that, indeed, wacky but perfectly viable setup. Fennin and CT dummies were made to match their counterparts, and yeah, they resist... moderately. A mere 300 dps difference.

But the main, completely missed point of this parse was not so much to demonstrate how far you could push the use of mana flare, than advocate for tuning of mana flare itself.

Pushing it even farther, you talk about "trash" mobs, and "newb" boss.

- First, who goes all-out on trash ? Let's be a bit serious here, eh ? Those talk of balancing revolve around downing fat bosses, you don't parse anyone by just turning on /log and /attack and come back 10 mins later, happy at with work well made.

Second, "newb" bosses. Well thanks for the "newb" comment, totally appropriate. ToV, ST, may be awfully trivial for you but guess what ? They are also fairly trivial for us (up to where we've been to yet) ! But yeah, this is where we go all-out anyway and where those wacky setup could be put to relatively good use, given the parses on dummies. And could also be used for further bosses we'd encounter sooner or later.

Personnally, I sticked to my usual setup yesterday. Others are PoC of the uses you can do with mana flare.. And I'm the one who mentionned the... abuse... you could draw from the tome of swirling feather (I hate to say that, it's more a question of not having been noticed before, and if Zalux hadn't mentionned rains it would have taken one more day before noticing it). I'm honestly contributing to make balance better. Can't be helped that I figure potentially balance-breaking facts, I have an active imagination.

I couldn't find any mage parses more recent than this thread, so I'm gonna necro it =/

This is using a t8 air pet with elemental fury, donor clicky, sune buffs + basic shammy buffs (might/champ/godly rk1). Equips are from ToV clickies. It counts the proc damage as coming from the mage, so about ~500 dps that's attributed to the mage is actually coming from the pet procs.

Mage is mostly T2 geared, chain casting thunder w/warlock aura (no clickies of any sort or mana flare).

Vlar on 4/26/2012 in 283sec

Total
--- DMG: 5379288 (100%) @ 19008 dps (19008 sdps)
--- DMG to PC: 85 @0dps

Xebarn
--- DMG: 4811144 (89.44%) @ 17001 dps (17001 sdps)
--- DMG to PC: 85 @0dps

Disthia
--- DMG: 568144 (10.56%) @ 2015 dps (2008 sdps)

Produced by GamParse v1.0.3

Not quite the 20k+ DPS that rangers and wizards put out, but not terribly shabby for sustainable damage that will improve a little with better gear.

PS. further testing seems to show that Mana Flare III adds ~500 DPS or so.

That parse seems low. Well geared T6+ mages with the T8 pet and donor click are out dps'ing my pally/monk/ranger combined in most cases. We need more data. You should parse with and without donor click to show the dps increase. You might even want to try the same thing with the 2.0 pet, just to show the benefit of the mage donor.

I'm using the T2 boot focus, which isn't the best in the world, so a better focus would help. Additionally I'm not using t8 pet toys, which would also help. Also, I'm not using any swarm pet or any of those AAs. And obviously my gear lags behind a top-tier mage. I'll post more parses as my gear improves and I get new toys to play with.

Edit: Oh yeah and better shammy buffs like a nice Glad rk2 would certainly address the issue also :)
