Question about ACvsHP, and augs.

Ok, so... I'm trying to figure out what augs to use as a paladin... and I am torn because I'm not sure of when AC begins to give you diminishing returns on THF. The Chaotic Stones of Sturdiness that you can get out of guk seem to be the best aug for a tank... as they can fit in type 7 or 8.. and give a fantastic 35 ac... but, many of the augs from later zones... namely seb/karnor/solb... offer very little ac, but give you stats/hp/mana... so, it seems to me that by far the best choice for a tank would be just to just put a chaotic stone of sturdiness into every slot.. except for the few augs with avoidance/shielding etc...

So... is this correct? Or what?

Edit: And oh.. why is the "Defense Stone" aug... 30ac, lore, and type 8 only.. while the lower level chaotic stones of sturdiness... are 35 ac, not lore, and type 7 and 8....

You'll find later in raiding that you need certain HP minimums to survive certain encounters. Until then, AC augs are not a bad deal.

The Chaotic Stones of Sturdiness was a relatively recent addition to the loot pool from guk. Previously, it was just chaotic stones (or something like that, 10 ac 30 hp 50 mana if i remember right) dropping from guk, and they were slot 7 only. It was quite difficult to get fully augged until NTOV if you were a MT or Sleepers Tomb if you were something other than a MT.

I think (guess, really) that the various augs now dropping in guk, and the fact that they are now type 7 or 8 were an attempt by devs to correct this, or make it easier to get augged up. Many of my characters that are in full tov are not yet fully augged, because they predate this change and I have been to busy/lazy to go back and farm, or to farm ST for them.

I think I answered your second question without answering your first. I would try and get to 3k ac before hitting tov. Once you are in tov, get full tov gear and full tov augs (if MT, if not MT you don't necessarly need the NTOV augs, can wait until ST and get by with guk augs). I was tanking tov trash with my zerker with around 2700? (guessing) ac when I started in the zone and did fine. Until you are in tov getting ntov augs, I would not fault you for using all 35 ac augs from guk, or even just using whatever you could get to drop without putting a ton of thought into it. Also look into SSRA mines (basement, named skeletons) for a source of augs.
