another thing to realize is that since you play a tank, and have a healer in party, a rogue or monk bot will do WTFdamage and generally be better than a tank bot for a tank character. this is my opinion at least.

those are the 2 i have experience with. bard bot would probably be useful as well, expecially with epic. you won't be replacing it until you're farming nameds in guk/karnor/city of mist.

once you finish at least crushbone and unrest (imo), natimbi is a great start for the 30-55 zones. great experience, it's open, you can get good drop gear for wrist/glove/boots for you and your bots, and some great quest rewards too. i stayed there until about 50 with my current group and then got going on the headhunter quest in guk.

I do not presently have a Tank character. I just use the Paladin Bot as the Party Tank/MA. Is this not a good way to go? I do want opinions as I have the mental capacity (a form of insanity) and PC performance to run 4 characters and 1 Bot but dealing with multiple casters does pose issues for me or has in the past. Melee/DPS are much more forgiving from what I remember at least. I know I will be missing AAs and Disc use on an Bot Tank. That might be back breaking in itself. I think I also needed either the ability to Soothe and single mobs out/Mez if adds [Bard] or FD and Single pull with Monk/Use Ranger for Rooting an add or 2. I definately want Utility of the Ranger and Rogue that go far above that of a Bot which is what I was going for. Tracking, Snare, Buffs, Lockpicking, Trap Disarming, Long Ranged Pulls, Root Park etc. I've learned from reading that THF has some clicky or other buffs available that can replace that of a Chanter or Shaman to some degree but I am not sure which or how difficult they are to get. This leaves getting a corpse out of a sticky situation but Graendal died once and all her gear was still on her body so I'm not sure if I'll need a Necromancer or not. I thought about trying 4 Mages though with a Cleric Bot for fun!

my bad, i was thinking the paladin was one of yours.

so, i have both a warrior and paladin, who tank for the 2 3-box setups i'm playing right now, i don't really have a main character. the problem with bot tank, is that you'll need to be feeding them gear above your other characters to make sure that they can take the hits they need. a bot will hold aggro better than a PC character though, so that is something to consider.

i've found thus far that with the stat inflation gear, i don't think shaman buffs are needed at all below level 55. i do use them on my bot because i haven't upgraded her armor since i created her  i want to have them for later on, if we ever get into raiding, since their buffs will be good then, i'm also leveling a cleric.

i think your paladin bot will be able to tank fine at least though the 30-55 zones if you upgrade the gear. also, your ranger/rogue should be able to take a few hits once their avoidance/mitigation levels are caught up. i usually camp my warrior at a named in lguk and then once it's clear, i run around and pull to them with the ranger. works well and the ranger can take out a few guards on his own.

it will be easier if you're using paci/lull to only get one at a time, but i think by 70, you'll need those discs/clickies to be able to tank any group content.

also, pretty sure we'll never need to worry about corpse runs on this server. i don't miss them at all :P

not sure if you'll follow that rambling mess, so TLDR: playing a tank (war/pal/sk) is not necessary to get to lvl 70. you can also use your ranger to tank. snare/taunt will keep things on you like glue :D

Crushbone:
The brave adventurers continued to Whack a dummy for quite some time at the start of last night's jaunt. Until Mystickitty announced on the loud speaker. MGB buffs at the Queen in 5 Minutues! :o The party was sooo there, ty Miss kitty! And then the group decided that it was time to take their buffed aggression back to Crushbone to continue their assault upon the minions of the evil Emperor Crush.

It took Aginor a while to figure out that a dropped book about Orcanite could not be picked up before the Dwarf at the mines gave him the task to find it. Who knew! So many Oracles, so little time. (Thanks for the tip guys) More elementals bit the dust and now many of the party have nifty shields that coat their skin with a thorny barrier that injures those that attack them. Shweet!

Orc Centurions...upon killing a few of these Aginor noticed a interesting dropped item, a Silvery Belt of Contention, the first haste items he has seen. He will need to kill many more he thinks to outfit the group with them. Very nice. It is unclear to Aginor if these are dropped by other types of Orcs.

Oracles as well as the Orc Thaumaturgist drop...Cloak of Destruction, Doomhollow Runestones(A ranged slot item), and A nifty Mask. It is yet unclear to Aginor if these are also dropped by other types of Orcs.

Skullcrusher...This giant sized Orc that wields a pair of axes was beaten down by a very perturbed Graendal that did not like the way he was looking at her. Aginor could not watch as she ripped his arm off and beat him senseless with it. Before she was done she had completely ripped the poor Orcs head clean off. Well maybe not so cleanly but Aginor stuffed it in his sack quickly as he remembered a Goblin near the entrance that might be in the market for it. Goblins and their heads... I believe he might have dropped other things that I do not remember but I do know his Toe has a nifty Snare spell for any class. Rahvin was quite interested in that as he was getting tired of everyone running away from him.

Onto...The Castle! Lots of heads to gather.
Once again Graendal would not listen to reason as she ran ahead once she caught the scent of the Emperor. With the rest of the party in tow she laid waste to the guards and ran right in taking no prisoners. This time Lord Darish did not stand a chance. He went down quickly and before the party knew it they were standing before the Emperor and his evil cohort, Ambassidor Dvinn. Aginor knew the Dark Elves were in league with the evil Orcs of Crushbone! The battle was short and the Emperor and his Ambassidor were slain, over and over...lots and lots of heads to give to the Goblin Greval.

Ding Level 30!

The group collected their rings and thanked the Goblins heartily. The party will have to return to collect a couple more belts and masks and complete a few more shield quests but that is about it for Crushbone.

[Thank you Micah!]

Last night the Adventurers turned in more patterns and materials and is nearly done collecting armors. Aginor and Balthamel have updated their spells and everyone spent the bulk of the evening playing whack a dummy, Rahvin's favorite past-time next to backstabbing, pickpocketiing, lockpicking, disarming traps, taking candy from babies and relieving maidens of their...virtue. Aginor took collections from the others and his defender, Tarmon, the Paladin has been completely decked out. Armor, Epic, Earrings, Rings, Mask, Haste belt, Cloak and Charm. Right now, no one has a neck piece but perhaps they will find something soon.

If there is not MGB buffs tonight the group will be spending their time skilling up their non combat skills and spell skills. If they do fnd some nice buffs, Balthamel had suggested they find an old world zone and have things beat on them a while to increase their defensive skills. Graendal veto'd this idea but Aginor thinks she will relent if she is allowed to kill something every so often. The woman is not happy unless her hands are covered in some poor creatures blood.

Now, even Rahvin began getting tired of stabbing the dummies. It was long time the group got back out there and once again they decided to go to crushbone.

The Centurions, Lego's, Oracles, Elementals, Slavers, the Scout and Warden and even most of the Stompers went down quickly and easily. The Champions on the other hand, not so easily. They must have many more HPs Aginor thought. Once, not long after they arrived the group had just crested the first rocks before the Scout hut and caught a glimpse of someone running by. Not an orc but someone really in a hurry. As they turned back it was clear why this person was moving so fast. He must have angered every Stomper and Champion on the hill as they crashed right through us. "Get ready men," Aginor said quickly and his companions responded. After about a minute the gaggle of orcs could be seen coming straight for them. The orcs for some reason, all went right for Balthamel and he went down FAST. Aginor tried to heal him and get everyone else into the fight but he was not fast enough. After the Ranger fell though, the others made short work of the attackers. Aginor rezzed Bal and the group continued on toward the hill.

What he really wanted was more of those Silvery belts of contention. They got a few more patterns, more mats, masks and cloaks to outfit everyone now and even completed another shield quest for Bal. No Belts dropped though and he needs 2 more of them for Rahvin and Graendal before they will be willing to move on.

Ding, level 35.

Aginor always has room for 1 person. This or perhaps working in tandem with someone or several someones for mutual advantage. His clerical nature will always put a warm body ahead of his colder, less talkative companions. Aginor is the saintly leader with Tarmon Gaidon, the quiet Paladin. Rahvin-A devlish rogue that plucked out his own eye to win a bet. Balthamel our ever diligent tracker. Graendal, a blonde force of killing power. What we lack in magical ability we gain in brutal staying power and utility.
