My interpretation of the rules might be off, but I'm not sure joining a guild to progress through the tiers with an intent to eventually join another guild permanently is against them.

If I'm not mistaken, the purpose of the guild hop rule is to prevent the abuse of instances, with intent to circumvent the respawn timers on content. What's suggested above doesn't fall into that category as the time frame suggested would achieve no circumvention.

To answer the OP simply and plainly: It is not allowed by the server rules.

Yes the intent of the rule is to avoid people exploiting the instance mechanism ... but so it would be in the question above exploiting the instance mechanism. If the player wants the loot of a guild instance they should join that guild, for real. Getting players in a guild to learn, get loot they need, advance, etc knowingly as the only reason (meaning, you join the guild to do that instance/s and then bail) would obviously be in violation of the rules.

There are 1000000 ways to do things wrong -- hopefully we don't need 10000 pages of server rules to clarify all of them :)

Let's don't try to find a "loop" in the rules ;)

I've read the op again and the way I read it is he's offering players to join, for real, for a limited time (time enough to take them through multiple tiers), teach them how to play and gear them up.

The time taken to gear a single player through multiple tiers is potentially weeks. So is this defined as guild hopping, or circumventing a rule by "working around it"?

They have access to the same spawned content as a player who remains in the same guild for the same time, they gain no advantage over other players, they simply choose to raid with a guild better suited to their personal goals (in this case, a guild that will assist them through multiple tiers without requiring that they stick around when they're ready to do end-game)

Have I got this wrong?

PS I have no personal interest invested in this and my guild is me and a friend, I just like clarification ;-)

I don't think anyone is looking for a loophole in the rules. The rule itself is quite valid and should certainly be there.

....but....the enforcement of the rule in this case seems at odds with the spirit of the rule. These guys are not looking to run though one instance or exploit any mechanics. The enforcement of this rule as it currently stands is more than a bit disconcerting.

How much time does one need to stay with a guild before they can leave and not be considered guild hoppers? Is time not the question but advancement and/or loot? Example.....I formed a guild strictly to get my toons into ToV and advance. By the way the rule is being enforced here I will be considered a guild hopper if I join another guild at a later date because now I know I would like to do so in the future.

We do not need more server rules to cover this situation, just more logical enforcement. What this guy wants to do seems like an absolute non issue. I bet that if he did not post about it, nobody would have a problem with it. Maybe there is some confusion about what he wants to do? Perhaps I misunderstand it.

The ruling in this case creates far more questions than answers since it's well outside the scope of the spirit of the rule as I perceive it to be.

Understand, I am not trying to dispute a rule. The rule is perfectly fine and reasonable. However, the ruling in this case creates far more questions than answers. I have no interest in what this guy wants to do but the ruling is important to me because it may have an impact on me if I join another guild.

This does indeed seem to be a non-issue. We referred to my old guild on live as a 'stepping stone' guild, since we were never at the high end game, but stayed active...killing dragons, finishing epics...various other raids. The main difference is that we would have liked to advance and were frustrated when members moved on.

I see lots of guilds posting for recruitment (been looking out since I might need a new home myself soon) and most of them ask for T6+ access...decent gear and AAs. You have to get them somehow. This just seems like a welcome home to someone looking to advance.
