EQEmu and Rain of Fear client

According to this post at http://www.eqemulator.org, there has been significant progress towards making the the Rain of Fear client work with EQEmu.

RoF has some nice upgrades over UF such as bigger backpacks (32 slot?), containers that can be places in other containers, etc.

Assuming that they get it fully functional, is this a drop in client replacement for all of us here at THF?

Pretty sure they mostly stopped working on that, as Steam kept upgrading what client was available so that there's no legal way to get the client they were working on anymore (unless you got it back when it was an option).

I perused their forums and couldn't find anything other than that old post you linked. I do hope that RoF comes here soon, there are infinite features to that client that make EQ simply an amazing game. But I don't see it happening soon :(

Edit: There are no legal ways to get UF, but people still do :-P Saying "You can no longer legally obtain this client" isn't much when we're playing on an illegal server to start with.

I didn't mean it to come off that obtaining it was bad. I meant that they stopped working on it because (I believe) they didn't want to keep trying to keep up with the Steam version and fully finishing the RoF from Steam that they started working on would put it in exactly the same position as UF (not obtainable legally), and UF was already fully functional.

Edit: That's how I understood it at least, I could be wrong and it could still be in development.

I understand. =-) I want RoF here as much as the next guy, but imho that's a LOT of work. Certain features would have to be disabled due to bugs/incompatibilities with our custom content. I'd love to see Hero's Forge as it actually makes luclin models awesome to look at, but that's a pipe dream.

I'm no mind-reader, but if I was in charge of eqemu I'd likely wait the 1-2 years until EQ finally announces they are no longer releasing new expansions and then just build off that. EQLive is still alive and kicking, but Sony seems heavily invested in trying to make EQN work, and it may not be long at all before they shift the final remnants of developers over to the new project and EQ1 goes the way of Vanguard.

But this sparked my perusing of the dev boards over there, and apparently they have mercs almost at 100%? That's awesome! Mercs are the only thing that kept EverQuest alive, and the system they have is infinitely smarter than the "I wonder what my bot is going to do..." system we have here.

Perhaps there's hope that one day in the next year it'll be open for business here? =-) Sorry for the de-rail.
