Grey wrote:(F-) Prestige quest is very meh. Every server I have seen use an idea like that has made the item a "must have" item which blows cock if you dont enjoy doing the quest.

(A+) Evolving items is pretty pimp because you are just going about your business of leveling and raiding and whatever and the shit continues to get better.

Well, I'll start by saying this...he's looking for a TIME-SINK, that is, a quest/adventure/task/series of quests/etc that drain time for people who feel like they need something to keep them busy if they don't feel like progressing normal content. Evolving items, albeit still a good idea to explore, are not a time-sink. You said it yourself, you can go about your normal business as though nothing has changed, but you'll get a leveled up item instead. Does that sound like something that takes EXTRA time? Certainly, you could waste away time exping just to level the item if your max aa, but in most cases, it wouldn't be an ADDED time-sink.

Also, keep in mind, that the prestige quest is a CONCEPT, and therefore can be modified to fit whatever role the CUSTOM server so chooses. Since we hold the ability to modify it in any way, it's completely and 100% within our ability to prevent the quest from becoming a mandatory part of server progression. I believe I already mentioned that in the original post, if you happened to read all of it...

And, in my opinion, the biggest challenge around the prestige quest concept is the POTENTIAL (not necessarily inevitable) overcrowding of lower and midlevel custom zones to powerlevel through the quest process. But, with the introduction of a smoother transition in tier ranges in the near future (as mentioned by Chaosslayer in another post), and with a parallel set of custom zones (hopefully doubling the options), this won't exactly be a tremendous hindrance. Also, personally, I'd prefer to powerlevel in Scarlet Desert from 1-50 anyway, which is not a custom zone, and it wouldn't bother any of the server newbies. There's plenty more non-custom zones open that are just as good, as well.

There's seriously some great potential to this type of a quest if you are strictly looking for a time-sink...I just think no one has got it right yet. Since THF has gotten everything else (and then some) right, what other servers have yet to do, then why not try a crack at the prestige quest?

Considering my entire guild, 47 people, spent 3 month grinding those darn shards, why not have YOU to share the pain?

The Prestige concept exists in Call of Duty: Modern Wafare 2 and, although possibly not a concept that originated from that game, it is an insanely popular game (the most popular FPS in the world at present, even more so than CSS).

That says a lot.

I personally don't like the sound of it but that's not the point here, is it? As stated above, it could be tweaked to suit this server and it would, undeniably, create an enormous time sink for those willing to partake in it.

It would definitely need some thought into lower level content. Either prestige only zones or volume-control instancing for the lower tier zones (prestige players only).

I personally dislike the concept of time sinks, and it seems that most games the came after EQ avoided them. I think the only time sink that I do favor is faction. WoW for example has few time sinks except for faction and PVP, PVP being the most popular and faction being necessary for top end raiding.

Tankzor got the point. Besides this thread is for the players who actualy would like to see a "time-sink" quest/system as addition to the actual THF content.
It will be optional, so it's not something to like or dislike.

Posted this earlier but it seems to have went into limbo somewhere.

How about some tokens added to sleepers, poair, pofear trash npc's which can be sold to the ldons treasure box for 200-300 points with a very small drop rate (1-2%) added to the bottom of a loot table. Farming aug, quest items, mats seems to be a time-sink in them self and you dont always get what your after.

Drop rate sorta based off of the loop of kelethin with a 3% chance at the bottom of the loot table makes it pretty rare so 1-2% might be like non existant but still a chance at something rewarding for your time.
