The worn2 code allows for some pretty nifty ideas that we could not do before. Additionally, it's not limited by client restrictions since it's fully custom/unique to the source.

That orb is my favorite so far, just from me playing around and working in the zone it has upgraded itself to a base of 1027 hp/mana.

And before the questions start flying: no there is no limit on how strong the orb can get, but it does begin to gradually take more time to get boosts as it gets stronger. Also both boss encounters and mini bosses count towards boosting its stats.

Some of the worn v2 concepts that are being worked on:

Cursed items:
- decrease spell damage
- decrease mana per tick
- decrease hp per tick
- decrease run speed
- decrease mitigation
- decrease melee damage

Boost items:
- increase spell damage
- increase mana
- increase hp
- increase resists
- increase melee damage

Speciality items:
- has a chance to double any heal casted on you
- has a chance to cause a nuke to crippling blast (3x)
- gives your pet the chance to crippling blow
- has a chance to cause your spells to require only 1 mana
- has a chance to cause your hits to become crippling blows.
- gives you a rune equal to 25% of your HP when you are below 30% life
- will occasionally strike your target will a fire based spell while attacking
- will occasionally strike your target with a magic based spell after casting a nuke


The cursed items are pretty fun. They have significantly higher stats to make them appealing while having to deal with negative consequences.

Obviously some of these may or may not make it into the game. And this is only a small portion of the list, there are some that will have to wait to be discovered :)

I remember reading a few years back some comments from a previous lead programmer from Sony, who had walked away, commenting that the engine that SoD? used .. which was a fully custom build and had - who knows how many - working on it, was limited by the design/game-final team's lack of imagination and desire to make things great.
When the interviewer asked what potential were players seeing at that time.. I think he said 10%.
I think your doing a great job (and sounds like having fun) finding that other 90% V :D

I will have to dig through the old MMORPG.com stuff, because I am sure I read it on there.

Anyways, an idea: perhaps tradeskills/vendor pp items can be utilized here? Say, boss #2 drops that orb with the same exact stats in the picture, minus the nifty worn v2 effect. In order to apply the v2 to the orb you must combine the orb + orb polish (or whatever) that drops from minis + polish rag bought for 50k from a vendor in a jewelers kit. Set a high required skill for combine but make it no-fail. Can do similar combines for the other items using the other tradeskills.

Accomplishes a number of things :) Makes tradeskills useful again, but not required (you still get the normal stats of the item if you don't TS upgrade it, just not the v2). Increases the desire for platinum. Adds more complexity and meaning to items and the skills of the players wielding them. Can also add a mildly rare drop to the bosses that when added to one of the traditional v2 recipes removes the skill requirement so it's just a no-fail combine. Lets players who dont want to skill up something skip that req if they got mildly lucky on a boss drop :)

Can also add watered down versions of these effects/recipes on similar items in previous tiers, but thats a *lot* of recipes to make :P
