I love PVP and it's surprising that I love this server so much because I don't tend to ever play MMOs unless it's on a PVP server but here I am.

This would only be worth it if the right effort was invested to make it work. Just opening up a PVP zone for players to plough into wouldn't work, nor would any tournament/arena/battleground system unless it was designed well.

The first requirement is that the PVP is either limited to level 69-70 only or it is tier-based, allowing players to only PVP against other players in their tier (this wouldn't be that great, however, as leveling up is very fast, so probably better to limit to 69+)

Then it should be further segmented either by raid tier flags or AA count as it's pointless having a PVP fight between a player that just hit level 70 and one who is capable of raiding fear.

Finally, there would need to be a purpose for doing it - either by ranks, trophies or some other reward that gives people something to aim for (ideally, it would be some form of PVP only gear but that's clearly a long term view and I doubt we'd ever get that).

I doubt the devs have time to implement all of this so we'd just be left with what we already have: pointless voluntary PVP where no one wants to take part unless they're top-end raid geared and they don't want to take part because there's no one to fight and no benefit to fighting.

On top of all this I don't recall EQ PVP being particularly well balanced or designed. Certainly not compared to later titles that were designed either with PVP in mind or with strong PVP rulesets (something that I also doubt the devs have time to implement).

If I had any spare time myself I'd love to undertake such a task. But I don't so... :)

you can always set up an individual zone to server as the bashing ground. Of course people would need some purpose to go there, like prizes etc.

I've never played WoW and never will but there are only two ways to do decent PVP in an MMO and it's either instanced and controlled or open world. I prefer the latter in an MMO but that clearly isn't going to work here.

I don't really care if there's no PVP here, I don't think the server needs it.

I was a big nut and grinded on the original WoW battlegrounds when it was still using the PvP rank system (Rank 1-14), Pre-BC. On the Alliance side, Rank 14 means you get the title "Grand Marshall", and on Horde "High Warlord". The individual who gets the highest ratings (per week) has to have the highest kills/points net. This was a crazy grind, and to excel and rank up, competition was ULTRA-STIFF, you have to be in a pre-made team... that means you have to be invited or know people in the higher ranks, and of course know how-to-play. People lost a lot of sleep just to get these titles and the associated armor/weapon rewards.

I played a warrior, and the highest I got to was Rank 11. I got a war-mount for my troubles... and a full PvP armor set with the title "Commander". Average playtime was 4 hours a day just on battlegrounds (probably took me like 3-4 months to rank up), people aiming for Rank 13-14 probably had to play round the clock lol. It was fun though especially if you were in a good premade team. If you just played with a PUG (pickup group), then chances are you gonna get steam-rolled by a premade. Crazy times, I miss it. Arena system was alright when it was introduced... but not as fun as battlegrounds. WTFPWNng people left and right (with the right team) was wickedly hilarious.
