A charm or a boss-aimed pet to give chanties some utility when it comes to bosses.
While exping/grinding/raiding(trash) chanties already have all the tools they need to be worthwhile, but when you're in front of that big&ugly rampaging/AEing boss all you can do once your debuffs stick is ensure everybody is buffed and wait for the rest of the group/raid to DPS the thing down. You can maybe chain-rune the MT for a limited usefulness, if the MT has a free buff slot for that.
Chanties are not nukers and should not be, so the idea of something else to use in those cases seems appealing to me. On the charm department spells are already here to grab a trash mob and send it DPS the boss for you, so i only see 2 other ways of making that 2.0 useful for now :
- a long duration charm (rejected by Tyler atm, and he is probably right here) that ain't more powerfull than current charm spells, but more convenient to use. Using charm on the long run is dangerous when you're CCing : if the charm breaks when you are in the urge to mez those adds that would tear melees/healers in pieces if not handled right on time, you're in a bad state

. All in all it would be nice, but it probably ain't the best solution.
- a boss-aimed swarm-pet that is immune to spell and melee damage, but with a big life drain over time : as long as you have the mana to heal, it DPSs the hell out of your target, if your mana goes to 0 it dies. The hard part may be to ensure you're the only one that can heal it... dunno how hard it would be to design. There should of course be a long recast timer on the clickie (the boss-aimed part of the thing).
EDIT: if all numbers are high enough, it would partly solve the healing problem : Pet with 2 million HPs and 100k dmg/tick life drain means any other heal would be pretty much worthless... but now the problem is to design a heal that you can only use on that pet... damn
Let's brainstorm more folks! There is probably more ways to make that 2.0 usefull, so gief ideas !
