[Guide] Upgrading Chaotic Armor To Kael

Post#1 » Mon Nov 16, 2009 5:52 pm

Ok, there are two ways to go about this:

1) Kill the giants in Kael until your specific slot / class armor piece drops. This can take quite a long time depending on luck. Everything but Chest and Legs drops off the yellow con giants. Chest and Legs drop off the Red Con nobles. A class that can slow or a slow proc item does wonders here.

2) Craft the Armor. For this you must have your trade skill leveled up to 255 for your class.
See my smithing guide for Blacksmithing. For tailoring follow Jerants advice:

"There is a much easier way which I don't mind sharing now that I'm hitting the 275 range. Seriously the easiest way is to level to 70 first and then go farm Tae Ew hides and blood. You can also grab the meat to bake with if you want.

1 Tae Ew hide + 1 Tae Ew blood + 1 sleeve pattern = skill up to 279.
2 Tae Ew hide + 2 Tae Ew blood + 1 backpack pattern = skill up to 295.

Check out the drop rates ... some mobs drop up to 6 of those items. Post 200 I can make 10 skill points per night." - Thanks to Jerant (I'm not a tailor)

After your tradeskill is leveled up, the items you need are:

Reworked Muramite <slot>.
Vial of Solution <Plate for Plate> <Silk for Silk> <Chain for Chain>
Muramite <Plate> <Silk> <Chain>

These all drop in Icewell Keep off of the dwarfs. Chest and Legging reworked are a fairly rare drop off of named.

Combine the Solution with the corresponding Muramite Material <Plate> <Chain> <Silk>
This will give you Infused Muramite <Plate> <Chain> <Silk>.
This combine makes a NO DROP item This was to insure that you would have to skill up each character for their armor.

Once you have the Infused Muramite <Plate> <Chain> <Silk>.
You must search for your classes armor recipe in the Forge or Loam:

Warrior = Vadd
Cleric = Dakkamor
Ranger = Nadien
Berserker = Harlad
Bard = Luvwen
Shadow Knight = Rayin
Paladin = Trimdet
Shaman = Kanleku
Rogue = Nodnol
Druid = Gaelin
Beastlord = Kizash
Monk = Pressl
Magician = Jennu
Enchanter = Lelyen
Necromancer = Nolaen
Wizard = Nunkin

Chest and Leggings Require 2x Infused <Plate> <Chain> <Silk>
The rest of the armor requires 1.

Enjoy your new armor.

Well written! I'd just like to add that you can combine the items a little earlier than 255 HOWEVER, and this is a big however, you do run a risk of failing on the combine and losing your piece. My advice would be to wait until 255 to try any of the more rare items ie.. chest / legs. The bracer, boots, helm, sleeves are a fairly common drop so attempt at your own risk for those if you have multiples.

You could always buy the mastery tradeskill AA's to get a head start even earlier. They work well.

I eventually decided to "brute force it" as it were at a 175 skill in Tailoring O.O i had 2 of everything but pants which i had one of and chest (which i already had a better robe luckily lol) and managed to succeed on all but the sleeves :P Obviously i don't recommend doing it the way i did unless A. you have a ton of components and can farm more or B. you're feeling incredibly lucky :P Great guide Rerfu :)

Say for example you have a boxed group (in chaotic armor) and can take on Kael giants, would it be faster to get geared up there or just do tradeskills and go to Icewell farm the Muramite drops?

Much faster to Kill in Kael I'm sure. Think about how much mats you have to farm on every character just to skill up to get the combines, then you have to farm icewell. Kael, the only issue is that you'll see lots of armor drop for classes you don't have. If you have only one toon, icewell is faster.

The thing that sold icewell for me is the difference in difficulty.

As a totally fresh group, attempting even the trash in Kael was a rude awakening, where we realised quickly enough that every pull would come with great risk of wipe and to even contemplate taking out the named was just out of the question.

Whereas farming pov + icewell was cake, very good aaxp and required only one character to do all the killing (in my case, the rogue with bot).

There's definitely a point where Kael becomes easier to do but by that time I'd already leveled up 5 characters smithing. I do regret trying to do tailoring, however... an absolutely disgusting trade skill that is... Hated every long, long hour of it and still haven't maxed him out. I'll never do that again!

But leveling up smithing is painless, plus by the time you've got it up high enough you are almost guaranteed a full set all in one quick blast. I cannot say the same for Kael where one could be waiting for that single nodnol's chain bracer to drop for weeks on end, only to see dozens of random items for other classes and slots drop. With the smithing route you have a finite and very clear goal set, which you know is achievable and not up to a significant level of chance; where at all stages of the quest you gain fast and relatively smooth aaxp (as well as being useful for leveling up alts).

You're right; a solid group capable of performing well in Kael should spend time there as they'll fill up their slots quite quickly. But what then for the last few slots remaining?

Thankfully, we're good enough to do pofire now so my alts will simply skip Kael and get suited up in strange armour right from chaotic.

Good point, Pofire armor is crafted anyway :-) still need to skill up BS and tailoring, so Icewell it is (for now)!

I wrote this over 3 months ago, there are more options available now.

Initially I played Rerfu, and farmed in Kael in chaotic armor to the point where I almost couldn't stand the zone anymore. My cleric Rerfus was at 400 giants slain and I hadn't seen a set of Cleric pants. I'm fairly certain that I went from Chaotic Pants straight to ToV Pants. So its all luck of the draw when you're farming Kael giants.

Given the ease of raising blacksmithing, and the fact that I didn't have to 3 box to kill in Icewell. I decided that listing the Icewell crafting route would be more beneficial to most people.

If you enjoy killing Kael giants and you box an entire group (which was very rare at the time of the guide I think 3 people did?) go for it.

Icewell is still definitely faster for everything but Chest and Legs which require patience either way.

Ornate armor isn't worth the platinum or time spent on it.

What about the Elemental Armor. The way it looks to me is that you can craft all the tradeskill required turn-ins on one character? The final combine is no fail-too so in theory you could have one character with max tradeskills to do all the hard combines?
