struggling player

I'm new to THF but played EQ back in the day, and I know this has custom stuff which I am enjoying...however, I've been finding myself struggling alot. my bot helps but I know i'd figure out content faster with a guild or a group. I'm looking for an "easy on noobs" kind of guild. I don't box, wouldn't even know how to start doing that, so it's just me.

"Celestial Jewel" 52 magician as of writing this...dying repeatedly to red mobs that 1 shot me standing in the way of progressing.

Not sure if you've seen this post about solo boxing through T6, but I imagine it would still be pretty useful for a solo player.

Thank you to both of you. I'll msg when i see you online :) and thank you so much for the information. apparently i've been doing it wrong this whole time. I tried the "slow way" of leveling thru the alt zones and realized there was no information on it so my necro's stuck there now lol.

Oh interesting. Yeah I've never done the alternate progression. Here's a wiki on it if you didn't see it,

http://www.thehiddenforest.org/wiki/ind ... rogression

Looks like you could remove your character from it if you wanted.

oh i saw that and I know I could leave at any time, except once you leave you can't go back in. I'd like to try and figure out the stonebrunt section...the one the wiki doesn't cover lol

oh, one other quick question. I've noticed almost everyone multiboxing has donator gear...do I need that to solo survive? because $60+ is currently way out of my budget

Started my character, Necro, on alternate progression until about lvl 37 or so. Made the switch over and honestly enjoyed the regular zones more. Have leveled up single char or couple chars up over the years and always enjoyed the regular progression zones more.

There are plenty of choices in the normal zones along with some great quests that can be done solo. If you ever need help most people are willing if you ask. Just make sure you ask for what you need - looking for a healer, some light dps, whatever it may be otherwise you may just get people doing more than what you want as they just want to help.

As for donator items, they are very useful but not necessary to enjoy a good portion of the content. Depending on the item it may even make some of the lower content trivial. It took me over a year to donate for the first time and I was up into T4 by that time with help from some friends.

That being said some classes will solo better than others and anytime you can add one extra char - adding a pet class char is easy dps and basically just need to have the other toon stick and pet attack / pet back off.

regards,
Niix

To add to what Niixnec says, for solo-toon non-donor play, yeah you can advance a little bit in THF due to the inherent balance changes that have been done...but the basic framework of the game is still EQ, i.e. a game that requires multiple toons.

That framework though, is thrown off-balance by donor gear. How much off-balance is determined by how much donor gear. There is a player here that whose main/fav toon is a heavily donored monk. Generally speaking, the only fights (including all the T9s) that he cannot beat are the fights that have been specifically scripted to require multiple toons, i.e. the player needs to (in a manner of speaking) be in more than one place at a time...or requires a specific spell or ability that is not found on monks. Keep in mind that he is also a very skillful player...all the donor gear in the world won't help with complex fights if you don't know how to play the game. or play the toon, or play the fight.

If I remember correctly, my lightly donored mage was able to solo up to and including Sleepers (I think).

As for multiboxing...yeah, I can understand not wanting that complexity if you are shooting for casual play. But fyi, there has already been a non-donor solo-player box raider that has beaten VT. But keep in mind, that this achievement was done by a very skillful player using a boxing program (probably MQ2). The use of an automation program is the only way a player will be able to properly play 24 toons at once (which is about what is required to beat a T9 zone without donor gear).
