how about boat rides:

/group I am about to teach you how to speak gnoll
/group the more i spam this message the better you will be
/group if only you could understand this
/group perhaps we could get a beer or two
/group alas, you are just a dumb troll

boat rides were always fun, poor suckers grouped up and taught one another languages from far away lands... if nothing else, it was a good team building fun. you almost allways ended up meeting a friend on a boat ride. only jeebus knows for certain you would never go afk on one, who knows where the hell you might end up. 45 minutes later getting to your destination

Before the shared banks were implemented, you really had to trust someone with your stuff if you wanted to transfer them to another character. I've seen loads of people get their stuff stolen, especially those items they paid 5-10k plat from the bazaar. And the only person who could make people officers of the guild was the guild leader. So if the guild leader wanted their alts made officers, they had to trust someone enough to hand over the leadership of the guild.

I used to go to the corner above the Jewellery shop in the Foreign quarter of Neriak, drop the items on the floor then switch over quickly, preying the server didn't crash or my 1 hour limit ISP didn't disconnect me :D

Yea transfering money was dangerous.
That is like before Kunark, in the first months of everquest the command /consent would allow the person consented to actually loot your corpse so that they could bring your stuff to you. This caused so many problems that they quickly removed that aspect and made /consent to only allow them to drag your corpse. Guess too many people would simply keep the gear that they got on your corpse.

And the bronze armor was good stuff, along with mino axes. They were so great as weapons. I remember camping the gnolls in HH pass with my friend for the armor and the minos in the gorge for the axes. Pulling the minos and mudmen to the Runnyeye entrance was great times.

One of the earliest laugh out loud situations was when a RL friend of mine, who was playing a Troll SK and I were in a group killing the eveil eyes in the gorge. He was so tough compared to the rest of us (myself a lil gnome necro) and he ended up getting charmed. He turned around and just slughtered through us. It was horrible chaotic as we all tried to escape his horrible troll wrath to no avail. We had our comps lan'd at the time and he was laughing so loud as he watched his character dropping us.

I use to transfer items by dropping them on the ground. I really wasn't a social person back then, and none of RL friends played EQ.
there were few good places where no one was around, or no one would ever notice you.
Of course you need to have all your chars in one place before hand =)
Anyway, Freeport had an excessive abundance of empty buildings with 2 and some times 3 floors and dozens of rooms- was pretty safe. YET once someone managed to follow me and almost snack out with my bag
Later on, I switched to using Erudin - now that was empty like 24/7 even in days before Kunark.
Neriak was another place easy to hide, or even get lost  But obviously you could only do transfers between evil characters there.

A friend of mine never leveled a single toon past 15 in classic era.
One set of our toons happend to be men with foreheads and they had just changed the zone in prep for Paineel. Loved that the zone was always empty and you could just have fun with a friend if you wanted to be alone.
slaughtering Kerra before the changes way way way back when.
Boat rides always stuck out, my first screen-cap and printed EQ pic was of the sunset over the water at the docks in freeport while waiting for the boat.

I think my first memory is of when I started and my best friend had a druid already in its 30s and he gave me a full set of bronze armor and I was a god until I died and couldnt find my corpse. He had to pay a necro to locate the corpse for me because back then a full set of bronze armor cost a ton of money.

Which remind me of...
...I finally got my friend to play EQ, and got him some starting gear. It was mostly a mismatch of various armor, but I got him Fine Steel BP. So he starts playing and gets to about level 12, leaves nektulos forest (he was DE SK) and travels to East Commons exploring the world. He kills a few things there and there, and finally gets himself a level 16 mummy, who stats beating the crap out of him. So he turns and starts to run. But his hp were already low,and his AGI dropped, so his running speed has dropped. So he figured, he would reduce his weight by dropping something. As he was running he opened his inventory and discovered that the heaviest thing he had was his BP  So he takes its off and drops on the ground... His AC takes a huge dive down, and runs a few more steps and mummy finishes him off.
He respanws back in nektulos, runs back, finds his corpse, and then tries to find his BP somewhere near by. Of course by the time it took him to run back, the BP was long gone. Either it was picked up by someone walking by who saw a bag on the ground (EC is a busy zone back then) or it simply poofed after 5-10 min.
Either way hi sent me tell telling about this... When I heard what he did, I could decided If I want to smack him for loosing 200pp worth BP, or keep laughing
