People complain to this day that the 2.0 progression is too tough because of contested mobs in uninstanced zones. Enjoy being on the top of the food chain where you decide what mobs to kill and when. Competition is only fun for the one who is winning, not the one loosing.

Other guilds aren't so lucky to have so many resources to kill each and every mob at will. Everyone wants to progress tho, thats why raid zones are instanced and some are not or some are even unkeyed like PoFIre to even allow the casuals to join with the Raiders.

I have a busy life schedule, as is. If I truly had time to have competition, I'm sure it would be invigorating and fun. I believe instanced raids help such people as myself. I can't be home early in the evening to start progressive zone raids. I play this for leisure, not for sport. Just my .02 cents. ;)

You play for pleasure at your own pace.

Some players dont and should be rewarded for their dedication, committment and support to the server. We raid everyday and expect to rewarded justily. Not that someone can log in once in a while and reap the same rewards.

I see a lot of good points here between both sides. My 2cents is that the server should encourage competition on the top end tiers (5-6) while also maintaining the instanced & more relaxed mid-low end (tier 1-3). The way I see it is:

1.) Don't change SSRA, ToV, Sleepers, & PoFire
2.) Xegony should NOT be instanced, this way raiders are on alert and more competitive (but do not change avatars; so people can still get keyed, add 1 more key component per avatar)
3.) Don't change PoFear
4.) upcoming Tier 7 shouldn't also be instanced
5.) World Bosses are fine... I think tier3 and up bosses should have longer spawn times (maybe add another day or two), this way we don't flood the market with too many uber items

I like the idea of casual people still being able to progress at their own pace (Tier 1-3), while the topend raiders can still compete with each other on Xegony and beyond.

Just how does someone who logs in once in awhile manage to gear up as quickly as someone who raids everyday? Surely the people who login everyday would be gearing up and progressing faster?

Does progressing slower mean that these people dont deserver an equal shot at encounters? I fail to see how progress should be determined by how long you are willing to sit at a pc per day incase of a spawn, instead of being online and progressing through said encounter at your own pace.

Ive used this servers instancing as a selling point to get people to play here. Maybe I should warn them that once they reach a certain point, the instancing will go, and its back to the same old drama of every other EQ server out there that they came here to avoid.

Seems to be a familiar beating of the ol' dead horse, again.

Keep instancing the way it is. It's a huge selling-point for bringing in new players to this server, as well as keeping the longer-residing players satisfied with the lack of drama as you progress further.

If two or more guilds wish to have some sort of competition or race, why not brainstorm with Lillu, Tyler, Jericho and Chaos (just to name the Devs I'm aware of) and set something up for just your respective guilds in The Arena or some place with a ridiculously hard mob that has no significant bearing on progression, so you can all race each other to it, fight for the spawn and the right to kill it, and keep yourselves happy with that?? That way the bloodthirst for competition is satisfied, and no drama wreaks havoc on the rest of the server population as it doesn't spill over into the /ooc channels.

PS: This is only my opinion on the subject, no flame-throwing please.
I need a scorecard to keep track of all of my alts!!

and so very many more....

Those who log in once in a while should not gear up and progress as quickly as those that do. Thats how everquest has always been. Remember the top guilds on EQ live got to where they did because of the comittment and hardwork. They played everyday and were rewarded accorindgly.

Put it this way, in real life work, you work harder you get a big paycheck, if you dont work hard, you dont get the big paycheck. Its a simple principle of life...and its no different here - hard work pays off (well it should)

Someone earlier said (think it was a dev) that people are complaining that they cannot complete their epic 2.0s because the zone is not instanced and the spawn was down.

The answer I have is simple - too bad. So many times I zoned into Icewell to see if Dain was up and he never was. It took me over 2 weeks to finally get him, but in that two weeks i was checking the zone constantly. This is what makes the epic 2.0 exclusive (somewhat) and why it is difficult to obtain and rightfully so.

If the GM's change this and make Icewell instanced then this exclusivity goes out of the window and the "charm" of obtaining the epic 2.0 goes. And you would see more people running around with red swords or glowing axes.

The same with making the higher end zones instanced and my argument why they should be kept as it is.

The gentlemen above, Khalis made a good post

One high end instanced raid zone placed amidst 3-4 non-instanced raid zones (or however many we have) shouldn't be a selling point since 7/10 of the server will likely neve make it in there. Now, if you were advertising the raid zones 1-3 which are instanced, that is a great selling point as it means newer guilds with less play time will be able to raid at their leisure.

>> General opinions from here on, not directed at anyone specifically <<

Since PoAir is the only raid instanced raid zone in tiers 4+, I also agree that the existing progression suggests it be made non-instanced - as should any newer ones. However, if all raid zones were made to be instanced, this would also be a good change. Throwing in an instanced zone in the middle of contested zone progression seems strange.

However, I don't believe that we, as players, really should get to decide what gets instanced or not. We can make our suggestions of course, but we do not see the entire picture and the balance of trying to make everyone happy. The devs have gone to great lengths to provide a place where everyone can play according to their own play style - and they do so at a great cost to their own personal time. If we don't like what is being done, then it is our prerogative to move on - this is the way it is done outside of private servers.

some ppl can't use their brains again, so closing this topic.

We'll do as we think it's good for the benefit of all. Your opinion is welcome but don't argue here.
