the problem is that normal OLD monitors had 4:3 scaling, the widescreens have 16:9 (? i think?), anyway, when you just setting the resolution WITHOUT properly scaling the monitor screen to properly STRETCH the screen of the software you running, it doesn't display properly, it either stretches the picture to the point where things look ridiculous, OR it leaves huge black borders on sides.
