Augmentation client crash

I'm sure there's been a bunch of people that have had the problem of your EQ client crashing when you attempt to aug an item. The problem I had for a while was in the birdbath, I could put 1 item in, either the aug or the item, and then when the second was put in the client crashed. I've found a solution to my problem, and hopefully it will work for yours.

The way I had the game set up was after the fresh install, I installed the THF files and the spell file fromm the website, and even though it was a fresh install, it still happened. I finally got to the point where I messed with the game til I was out of ideas, and the only thing I could possibly think of was to repair the install I had of Everquest Titanium. Doing the repair install replaced all of the files I had (and possibly repaired them) and deleted the THF files as well. After the repair install of Titanium, I manually transferred the spells file and THF files from the installer, and the augmenting worked.

No more crashes on my client any more, and I'm completely happy with it. This makes the game THAT much better to play (at least on this server, and I LOVE this server).

So if you have a problem with the client crashing on augmenting the items you want to keep and hold for a while, try this solution as it has helped me out when nothing else did.

Thanks!

*UPDATE*
It has something to do with the UI customization thats making it happen. After the repair install, the game reset everything including music, graphics, EVERYTHING. The User Interface was also reset as I had to redo everything, set transparencies etc. After reconfiguring the UI to my specifications, the game started crashing once again on augmenting items.

I'm not sure if you would call it a custom UI, all I have is two chat logs (one for chat, the other is a combat log where the damage/spells/crits go) and the rest of my windows are the stock ones. I put them to alpha 10 to hide them a bit, but before any of this is done on my UI the augmenting works, and after I get everything back into place it'll start crashing again on the augmenting.

so i've got it set up where i've got my eqgame.exe running seperately from another repair install of everquest titanium, and whenever i wanna aug something i'll have to switch over to the eqgame.exe that i haven't messed with the UI. its gotta be some kind of coding error somewhere, but i'm not really sure why it would do this.

I know in titanium if you resize your windows while things are occuring in them. Say you resize a window that has combat information currently scrolling through it at least 80% of the time the client will lock up and crash.

Best option is usually to be in a situation where nothing is going on for you, or near you.

May not be related to your issue however, but since you said that only difference is chat windows maybe? Outside of that I have never had the client crash while augmenting so sounds weird :(

I am not sure why it is doing that to you. I have tried replicating it and works fine for me. Could you try on a different computer and see?

Anyone else has this same problem? and if so, How do you replicate it?

Thanks.

there are only a handful of people with this problem, yet it still takes away that extra part of the game. I'm currently having to log onto other people's accounts to do the augging and that seems to be the only way of getting around this for others.

What I am trying to figure out is if it is account or character or computer problem.

1) Can you login to the toon you crashing with from a different computer? Heck, I will do it for you! :). If so, what happens?

2) Can you login with another toon from the same account on the main system? If so, what happens?

3) Can you login to another account on the main system? What happens?

This will help resolve it.

Thanks.

Used to be able to aug just fine, was away for some half a year probably, now it gives me the crash thing. Alot of folks have said this is because I played on p99 and I hafta reinstall, but on the other hand my desktop comp (this is laptop) doesn't crash on augmenting, and I had same p99 files and such on there as I have on the laptop. I tried snagging the eqclient.ini file from the desktop over to the laptop, which made all the chars stop being naked once they got any armor past the vendor bought newbie gear (yay! =p), but the aug pool crashes continue.

Tried to load different UIs and set transparencies back to no avail, too. Confusingmost.

And have tried multiple accounts and chars, happens on all of em on multitudes of attempts.

On the same system?

If you have a computer that doesn't do that, copy that EQ install to the system that is crashing you and see if that fixes it.

What anti virus do you use?
I just had to change the one I was using as it was causing me to lockup randomly and I couldnt box on one computer after installing it.
