Magician 2.0 usefulness

Good Morning,
I started playing my mage the other day and began doing 2.0 quest, when i realized that the 2.0 is a pet. I was thinking that at the level it takes to do the 2.0 you can buy the T8 spell Elemental Essence Rk. I from someone instead. What i was wondering is if there would be any consideration to change the magician epic 2.0 effect to something more useful. Maybe a nice nuke or a pet buff or something along the lines of a druid epic but for melee. Just trying to get input, and if other magicians think that i am mistaken please speak up.

Thanks alot :P

Hello,

For people who are following progression, they will hunt their T8 spells by themselves and Mage will need their 2.0 pet for long.

Just my 2 copper, having the T8 spells dropable has benefits (economy, no waste of spells), nevertheless it breaks the progression having powerfull spells even before having to get the only droppable spells for example T4/T5). From my own experience, I am still in DS (Xeru is next) and we decided not to buy T8 spells because we want to go the progression way.
(OK I have donor Vambraces, but that's only for few T8 spells and fact I 12 box and my buddy even more (18) and that's a pain to buff 5 groups - On the other side, I did not buy the T8 wizard powerfull spells for example :p)

It's pretty much like loly said, if you follow progression then the 2.0 fits exactly where it's suppose to. If you choose to buy the T8 pet, well that is your choice. Keep in mind also that the 3.0 epic will require the 2.0. Sure you may not use the pet summoned from the epic 2.0 but progression wise you will eventually have to finish the quest to move forward.
Oh the fun you all are going to have in DSK3...

I thought that mage 2.0 was a kind of swarm pets like necro's 2.0. Guess I was wrong :)

Doing epic 2.0 is always fun and as Lola said (always listen to french people) and unlike Firenze said (never listen to french people), you are not forced to buy the items that are that far beyond your actual reach. I would add something, and because I am french you should listen to me (rofl), epic 2.0 and then epic 2.8 will probably be an item that you will keep, at least for it stats during a long long time.

I like the 2.0 pet. My mage still uses it. I bought a few spells from friends but all my toons are missing the majority of T8 spells. I dont plan on any more until I am done with T7 and we are in T8. Then we can kill and get the spells as part of progression.

The progression on this server is great. I've done every tier from lvl 1 to T7, many many times. Me and Loly are in T7 having a blast, Xeru is only target we havent seriously tried yet. All of our toons are very well geared with T7 items, and we dont tend to move on until we know every encounter in the zone.

Farcical is ready for T8 final fight, but until T7 starts to get old I'll be playing in there. The ascent was a fun little break that I still have to go back to and finish. I still have to do my raid auras, WOS pets for some toons, Queen adventure, the list goes on.

It goes to show just how much work has gone into this server, as I have been playing here for allmost 2 years and I still think that if all the development stopped right now, I would still have another 2 years before I saw everything I could.

I can understand why people would want to buy the T8 pet, and the fact that they are tradeable is a great idea, but it will spoil some of the excitement if you are overpowered for the zone. TOV used to be thrilling, go back there with T7 gear and I can solo Vulak.

I wouldnt like to see the 2.0 mage pet get changed.

I think this is a legitimate issue though. Saying that buying the t8 pet and making the 2.0 effect useless is "your own choice" isn't a valid argument. The question is whether the 2.0 is a viable and useful item to *most* people at the power level and time commitment to be doing it. I would argue that most mages buy their t8 pet before they ever do their 2.0. That means that for most mages (I'd ballpark the number at about 80%), the 2.0 clicky is useless from day 1. I would say that's an issue! Compare that with the wizzie 2.0 for example, which is an item I see people in full T8 gear still clicking regularly.

The need for a clicky pet of that power level is a separate issue and could be done with a separate item.
