Tier 1- 4 Expectations? Off tanking required?

A small group of friends and myself are joining THF, and so far we are loving the set up. We are all approaching 70 and look forward to attempting 70 group and tier 1 content.

So far we have a nice variety of classes, but one thing I'm interested in -- for tier 1-4, are there many fights to bring a secondary tank / off tank? If not, then our newest member will likely go straight DPS vs a SK for off tank.

Just looking for a general over view of how many tanks we need (assuming MT doesnt die, har har) for the first couple of tiers of content.

Thanks in advance,

Aaron

It depends of the healing power you have. None of the scripts of tiers 1-4 requires offtanking really during a boss fight, but if you plan progressing without donor I would tell you that it's always safer to have a offtank :) You will often be forced to pull boss or mini boss + adds so you might want to leave tank on boss while offtanker and dps kill the trash.
Moreover, as the fight goes, it's always nice to have someone able to tank in case your MT dies, and in the latest tiers, you might need to have someone offtanking too sometimes or your tank won't last very long.
And finally, if you ever plan on donating once, the sk donor v1 will allow him to keep himself alive pretty much alone for a looooong time :)

Depending on your dps, which if your new is going to be low, you will need a 2nd tank to step in once the def disc is over on the 1st. There are a few item clickies to get more def discs you can chain, and the buff extension foci will increase the disc timers. But having 2 tanks will make everything a lot easier on yall.

I'd go tank, ultimately you'll need a second tank the higher tiers you go so you may as well get him going now and start building up those AA's for when he is eventually needed (and for the times the main tank isn't online). Tier 4 is the first time I can remember a second tank was handy.

I recommend to anyone that boxes that they level and gear a tank, even if they don't MT, purely for the sake of being able to do stuff when the other guildies aren't online. That being said, I can only think of 2 fights in the current content that require an off tank. One is Lithuania (tier 8) and the other is Redfang (tier 7). the fights that are more difficult with one tank but still doable are Elemental Twins (tier 8), Xeru (tier 7), Volkara (tier 8), Vistrinda (tier 8), Xegony (tier 5) and that's it. You'll be able to do 99% of the content with one tank, so I recommend that your friend make his team with all dps and heals and then level a tank on the side to collect rotting tank loot, just logging him in when needed. I think full time extra heals / dps and a part time off tank will serve you best.

I had no idea how important AAs are on this server. I was playing a mage and then started making some alts to flesh out my group. Currently I'm boxing w/o MQ2 a mage/sk/cleric/bard/ranger and tossing in a cleric bot to help with the heals. I got all of them to 70 and have started collected AAs but I've hit something of a wall. I can kill in Kael, but only cause my pet rips things up. I cant actually tank (on my SK) any of the named in Kael yet.

I've started doing some Ldon's on normal to pick up AAs for my crew. I'm hoping that this helps. I've also started working more and more on my macros so I can hit 1 button on each character and get the most out of them.

Side question- Any guide on how to approach Ssra temple available? Its been so long I couldnt find Rhag 1 when I went a looking.

Thanks for any help!

If I were you, I would go to Ssra right now. Start in the basement ghetto area (they drop augs and stuff) and rack up some AA's. Kill the Rhags and Creator, they are the easiest. Then AL. Then start doing the Cursed cycle. Once you have the cursed cycle down you can have a go at the Emp.

I don't think I ever killed the High Priest, I never found an effective way to handle the adds...I had the same problem with Emp.

After you have some more AA's and some bits of gear go back to Kael and just go for the nameds you want loot from and roflstomp them. I wasted a LOT of time in Kael, the xp is quite low and it's not worth grinding aa's there and the loot is not special for the most part. Some good spots to grind AA's are the frog caves in PoStorms (I think) and Icewell. Another great place is Chardok, fair loot and fast xp. Many people seem to grind AA's doing Ldons but I never liked it, to me they are mind numbingly boring and until you have enough gear to just mow them down in a few pulls there are far better places to get AA's imo.

This guide was great. Pindawin and I went through a bunch of the lower end of SSra last night. We killed Glyphed, Rhag 1, and some other random named mobs in the basement. We didn't have that much with a problem with any of it. How hard will the Emp be? Also, we did fine in Chardok in the tunnels/kennels area but we were scared to try the Queen/King out. How hard are they on this server? They are 24 hour respawn as well? Any hints or suggestions are always appreciated.

Thanks for all the help to everybody on this server. Really happy to have found this community. :)

If you can kill Glyphed you can likely do the rest of the cycle. I think it's the second guy who can slap you for 15k...I forgot the numbers really, just be on your toes and keep the tank topped up. The last guy in the cycle is a bit anticlimactic. Easy fight.

For Emp...you'll likely need a character on curse removal. It's not an easy fight. It's a fight I am absolutely terrible at boxing. Get keyed up and give it a go.

Go back to Chardok and beat the snot out of King/Queen. They are pushovers if you can kill Glyphed. They have drops tied to a couple of important quests. Prince too. IIRC you need their heads and the blade they drop. Heads were for a charm upgrade I think and the sword is for epic 2.0? The heads may be tied to multiple quests. Check the wiki, my memory is sketchy at the best of times.
