Xmas raid {{SPOILER}}

Decided to post this anyways, since people (including myself for several days) seem to have a lot of trouble with this event.

Things you need to know: You will need two casters that can spam Remove Greater Curse non-stop. Using only 1 seems to not have time to cast enough RGC's to finish the event (more on this later.) You will need a toon who's PRIORITY purpose is to watch for 3 emotes and click the gumdrop trees on either side of the king in the proper fashion. And you will need someone with an aggro spell (can be the person who originally tanked the king) to kite the mummies at the end of the event.

The event starts by the tank engaging the king (rooted NPC) and spinning him so he's facing away from the raid (towards the wall that was originally behind him) This is the orientation in which his emotes during the raid will be, well, oriented by (from his left, right, etc.) Have the toon who has been delegated clicking duty already standing at this left gumdrop tree at the start of the fight. At about 89% he will emote that he glares to his left side, at that point, that left gumdrop tree will need to be clicked within at the most 1.5-2 seconds. If not, he will spawn two bears which can make tanking more difficult. After that power fades by properly clicking that tree, have that player run to the one on his right side. He will emote again about at 65%ish? (forget what %, just have that player looking very carefully), in which he will glare to his right. Again, click the tree. If the tree isn't clicked, the king's DPS will ramp up significantly. Again, have this toon run to the left tree, again, and prepare for the last emote, which will occur around 50% (I forget what occurs when this is not clicked, I think it may be another dps boost, or it may be more adds...). At this point, just full DPS burn the king. He will go completely invulnerable at 34%, so you may want to pull all DPS classes quite a ways away. Have your tank standing between your healers and the king, and have those healers spam RGC on the king non-stop. Every 3-4 or so casts, a mummy will spawn that will initially run to the closest PC, but use your tank to cast an AGGRO spell on it (they are invuln to damage, but aggro spells work great) and kite it around until the next one spawns. After the tank aggros the mummy, it moves quite slow (though they seem to move slightly faster the higher the tier event, or maybe thats just me.) You will need to cast RGC quite a deal of times, and you will get 5, maybe more mummies in that time period, that will need to be kited. But once enough RGCs are casted, the king is cured, depops, and you get your chest which you can /open for your phat lewtz :D

NOTE: His emotes are under the "Other" chat filter, and are yellow (assuming you haven't changed it).

On a side note, there is a semi-rare bracer that drops from trash in SSra that has a remove greater curse clicky on it, but I haven't tested this route yet. If you don't have the toons who can cast RGC naturally, you may want to test this and see.

Best of luck on your adventure, merry christmas, and thank you all to those who helped me with the information because there's no way in heck I woulda figured it out!

No objections from me. Sharing information and tips is part of being a functional community :)

I would just edit your post name and add a spoiler tag or something. That way players that want to figure it out on their own do not accidentally check the post thinking its something else.
Oh the fun you all are going to have in DSK3...

Also another note: if you wipe (and somehow recover, by say, leaving a rezzing class at the zone in) it very well might bug the event, in which he will just randomly reset himself throughout the fight. To fix this, you will need to /camp all toons in the zone out and back in, making sure to pause for a few moments to make sure everyone is out before toons start loading back in. This SHOULD fix it, but if it doesn't you will just have to restart the raid yourself by handing in more ornaments :(

Is it me or does the event only let 2 groups in per instance ? Atleast the first time i did it the only first 2 groups of my raid got ported in.

For the first 2 tiers 1 RGC caster can be enough, also instead of having the King face the bear you could have him face the Igloo while the rest of the Raid is at the left tree which means you only need to handle the right one.

Another thing i noticed that once he is agroed and you not engage him directly he can despawn mid fight (will respawn within 1 or 2 mins though).

Good idea with facing him toward igloo while leaving raid at left tree ;) I just had a ranger doing the clicks who could DPS from range, so didn't matter much :P As for the first two tiers only requiring one RGC caster, I must be unlucky :( Tried having one caster spam RGC and it was never fast enough, it *always* reset after about 3-4 mummies. In the higher tiers I used 3 healers. Two spamming RGC while one stayed on heals in case a mummy got on someone too fast.

And yup, the reset is rather quick. I found it to be about 30 seconds to repop after reset :P

Haven't tried to bring more than two groups in though.

All tiers have allowed my 2 groups plus sostens 4 groups in with no issues. Only issues we've had have been lag in EF causing desyncs when zoning into PBKs lair.

Anyone know if it is possible to NOT get any polar bear guard adds? I seem to always get one minimum.

Thanks

If you click the trees in time you shouldn't get any polar bear guard adds. I've only gotten those when improperly clicking the trees. The cursed minions I always get.

To add to Rude's post:

The semi-rare wrist is not really semi-rare now. It's the Shissar Empire Badge of Honor (Tier 1), item 4476, and drops off trash mobs. It's a neck and wrist item but I suspect most players just click it from inventory. Its upside is that any class can use it, it can be targeted on others, and it has a fast recast. Its downside is that it only removes 9 curse counters. When I was using it in this raid, I was able to take down the King with seven "volleys" of casts from my 6-group in both the T6 and T8 instances (I did not think to count while I was doing the T1 and T3). I used an MQ2-based Social:

/bcga //target polar
/bcga //casting 4476

Note that older versions of MQ2 may not recognize the Broad Cast Group command. Substitute /bcaa or make an MQ2 group and use /bct groupname.

The portal to start the raid is targetable, as if it was an NPC. When you place a Pristine Ornament (item 121613) on it, you'll get the usual 4-slot NPC non-vendor trade window. Like Rude says, the number of Pristines you give in that trade will tell the game which Tier to make. And one trade will be good for your entire raid. Note that you MUST be in a raid for this to work...but if you booboo and forget to form a raid, no worries because the portal will just give your Pristines back to you (thank you Lillu).

The instance you end up porting to is a copy of Everfrost but with no mobs except for The Polar Bear King. Specifically, you appear in that little octagonal stone hut that is in the top center of the cave complex. Simply run to the polar bear area to get to the King. The instance will last for 2 hours so no real rush.

For the fight itself, since I have multiple monitors, I simply stationed a pet class by each tree in the hopes that my reflexes and presence of mind would be good enough to do the clicking and fighting. As it turns out, out of doing all four tiers, I succeeded once in clicking properly. (Yeah I know, I'm a crappy player.) Neither of my pet guys seemed to be within pet range of the King, so had to rush forward a bit to send the pets, then moonwalked back to the trees.

Since I and my guildmate Emgug are donored, we actually failed these raids several times due to over-dps. But shoutout to Lillu/Vaion for making the raid code robust enough to withstand being broken by player dps and simply failing and reseting without crashing.. According to my chat logs, when I solo-playered the T1 instance and failed, it took less than a second for a smooth reset. One of failures had such a fast dps that we actually zoomed by the King's 34%, to like maybe 20%, before the event failed. We laughed, waited a few seconds, and started again and competed it.

We had only one death, my squishy mage, from a bear add during T8.

The mummies seem to feed off the King's aggro...you hit the King with RGC and one or more will come after you. I am not sure if the spawning of mummies is timed, or comes from being hit by RGC. There was too much happening for me to properly observe. But every time (or near so) he is hit with RGC, you will get a message about the curse fading away. Sooo...seven volleys, six toons, -9 counters per item...7x6x9=378 curse counters to be removed from the king? I assume that if a couple of clerics had been throwing spells that have better curse removal capability, that I could have killed the KIng faster and had less mummies. /shrugs

I will post the loot I got:

T1 fight = Chest Plate of Frost (T3), Amulet of Frost (T3)
T3 fight = Shimmering Sleeves of Frost (T5), Talisman of Frost (T5)
T6 fight = Frosted Eye of Adrianna (T7), Sanguine Cloak of Frost (T7)
T8 fight = 2x Signet of Frost (T8)

All four Tiers are also Achievements.

After the event is over, you have 10 minutes to exit or be ported back to the normal polar bear area. There is a guild lockout of 24 hours.
