Ideas for a box group?

I haven't played in almost a year (and when I was playing I didn't get too far progression wise). I'm lookin at returning for some fun but no idea what classes make up a general easy to play group that'll get decently far progression wise (I don't mind having to level up chars later to swap them out / etc - Just lookin for a set up that I can brush off the rust of boxing with)

I might pick up a donator item or two for the tank to help out (or maybe a dps weapon - one or the other) and already have a shaman donor layin around from the last time I played to help with leveling / etc.

SK vs warrior for tank? is the shaman a suitable healer for a box group? What dps are generally 'hit auto attack and forget' - should I bother with leveling up a bot if I'm going to box? Are mages or necro's worth it? These are a few of the questions I'm tryin to figure out :P

Thanks in advance :)

Warrior or maybe pally (not very familiar with pally) is more of a "fire and forget" tank, as heal procs which you will load plenty up on in later tiers generate a hefty amount of AE aggro. Not to mention that with the donor weapon+beneficial ext buff focus+t8 tradeable defensive disc+various clicky rings means you can maintain defensive pretty much 100% of the time as a warrior. SK's really have to spam their AE's to keep AE aggro, especially since SK's primarily use lifetap procs (not heal procs) in their weapons because of the AA/focus/etc boost to lifetap damage/heal. Lifetaps generate practically NO aggro, and definitely generate zero AE aggro. Warrior sounds like your best choice.

As for DPS, if you plan to donate, weapons are good but the BP's will completely break content. IE: Donor robes on mage/nec summon unbelievably powerful pets (focus effects on necro robe also make their dots simply amazing), rogue BP will make your backstabs a MACHINE, ranger (though often overlooked) BP + bow is very very very good DPS for the lack of attention needed. You already have the shaman weapon, which is a very good start for counteracting group damage+increasing group dps. But I'm certain you'll likely need a cleric as well to main heal while shaman patches and performs odd other duties.

I wouldn't use a bot, unless you absolutely can't box another toon to finish the group, and even then....

Really, if you want *uber* DPS, you're pretty required to own a dps BP. If you go with SK over warrior, I'd recommend the immortality shield over the weapon. If you go with warrior, and can't afford a BP, go for the weapon 2.0 and then save up for the shield (can place in back slot if you really want to dual wield). The immortality clicky from shield has saved my butt+raid on so many occasions, that I can't even begin to describe how helpful it is.

My opinions :)

I run a war, all the tanks are good though, SK/Pal generate more AoE agro than warrior.

SHM can get you through a lot of content as a healer, I use both cleric and shaman, mage is a good DPS, even just epic 1.5 pet is solid damage when you get it. Bards are awesome for your group if you keep the songs going. Berserkers are nice damage, but they don't have an innate agro dump, which can lead to problems if they're equal in gear/AA to your tank early on. rogue has evasion and monk can FD.

for donor items, I've heard a couple people say if you can, go for the legs first, they're insanely good.

Heya,

From my experience I would recommend paladin as a tank since they can tank as good as warrior and Sk, have ae heal and good aggro management in general but choose the one you like the most coz at the end they are all capable tanks.

For healer shaman is very good choice for heal and buffs but a cleric might be required for some boss fight, one heal isn't enough without a lot of donors.

As for dps, casters are nice if u don't want to invest into donors, especially pet class since even naked they can give you a good amount of sustained damage.
Wizard are really good but require more attention.
Bard is always a good choice since he will boost all your group.
Melee dps are very powerfull once geared and if you plan to put a few donor on them even more :)

So it's really up to you, if you plan to play without Mq2 I suggest the following . That's what I run and u can handle it without too much trouble.

Pal/war/Sk * Cleric * Bard * Mage * Necro * rogue/monk/zerker and leave the shm out of the group for boss fight.

If you plan to use mq2.

Pal/war/sk * cleric * Bard * Wizard * Wizard * Rogue/zerker/monk

This combo require more donors to be effective.

As for the donor for Tank : priority goes to weapon and shield then Bp then legs.
And for dps.
Melee :weapon , legs, Bp, augs.
Casters : weapon, Bp, legs.

Of course you can just donate on the tank but If so just go with the first option.

Hope it helped,

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I went through my accounts and took inventory of what I had and what I needed.

I had a 70 war / shaman (donor weapon) / necro w/ T8 pet (i think?) / monk w/ donor weapon (don't remember how or when but its there lol) ..

I leveled up a cleric + bard over the past day or so .. so my current group looks like this:

warrior tank
necro w/ T8 pet
donor weapon monk
donor weapon shaman
bard
cleric

I have a mage in his 50s but I'll see how this handles for now and will swap chars out as needed
