Not sure where this thread is going but I have been on tonight for over an hour with no problems. =) Oh other than evidently my Worn 2 effects don't work.

Good to know :)

We are working on revising the worn2 handles to keep from facing the same problem that we had here. Right now it is staged to come in two code revisions. The first will make some changes to how item, spell and aa bonuses are calculated and how often they are recalculated. Internal tests went from about 40 recalculation a per minute (that were not required tbh) down to 7 per minute. No changes to values or usefulness happened, just a change of what is recalculated and when.
The second revision will actually be when the worn2s are turned back on. After a few days of running the first revision to see how it plays, we will push the second one out.
Oh the fun you all are going to have in DSK3...

I confirm that point, but we also had a drop of FPS (down to 30 for main, under 20 for alts) and some lag in DSK3 for the 3 cleaners that night (45 players in zone).

Usually, I'm between 40 and 50 FPS on main and at 30 for alts.

I'm going to answer this broadly as info to other players but I'll also address your post, conradd.

My understanding is that FPS is purely at the control of the client, although some particle effect toggling ON/OFF is handled server-side, like auras. (PS aura effects can be toggled ON/OFF via an NPC at the back of the tunnel in the Vale). That you experienced a reduction in FPS in DSK3 compared to usual tells me there were probably more particle effects to render than usual that night, or something else was consuming more system resources. I'm 99% sure of this, but there is always that 1%.

As for the lag - if it is not a client rendering/FPS issue, then it usually comes down to a network or server issue. This usually manifests in the form of delayed responses to loot/casting/movement, while the graphics still render smoothly.

The telltale signs are: If you try to loot a mob, does it take a while for the loot window to appear and the items to generate? If you try to cast a spell, is there usually a long delay between when you click the spell gem and when the casting bar appears?

How do you tell if it is server or network? Usually you can tell by the latency indicated by the client, which can be seen in the upper left corner (toggles ON/OFF with f11) of the screen. High latency (>200 ms) is generally a network issue somewhere between you and the server. Low latency and still experiencing delayed responses to loot/casting/movement are usually server related.

That all being said, was the lag constant? Did it occur only during certain boss fights? Did it affect all of your guildies? Did it fit the description for server or network lag, or was it more choppy FPS related?

My ping was between 80 and 100ms during that whole session in DSK3.

FPS was moving between 30 (with some pick down under 20) and 45 (which is near his normal state). Lag was during boss fight (especially the last 3), during buff time preparation, while running in the zone (climbing up from Dorvias to the quest NPC with my war was like in Cliffhanger ;) ). Issue was all you said, move trouble, loot trouble and casting trouble.

I had the same issue two days ago in Plane of Wind (tier 5). This time, I was alone, 9 players in zone, ping was between 90 and 110ms, FPS was under 15 on main and 10 for toons. A guildmate zone in for Xegony fight and he had no trouble. I log in one more toon for a loot on Xegony and it didn't have any issue.

I play with UF client, MQ2 classic build :
  • main is with medium quality graphics, no spell effect, no donor aura effect, luclin models on, velious armor on.
  • alts are with low quality graphics, 1 line globalLoad, no spell effect, no donor aura effect, no luclin model, no velious armor, stickfigures=1

Stop complimenting Conradd for his questions because :
1) He will so confident that he will ask more (and that's not good!), maybe to me (which is even worse for me).
2) His ankles will grow as big as his nose...(and you do not want that to happen, not only for him, but for the sake of the server) which is not a good idea when you know what dwarves look like.

Keep us posted on today's changes. Overall it should be a pretty decent performance boost since we cut the number of unneeded recalculations down significantly.
