Shaman Pet

Just an aside inspired by the simultaneous comments on mages:

I often just bring my Shaman into a raid to buff. Might help a tad if all those AAs spent on her pet would land on a level 70 pet rather than Farrel's Companion level 67 (5389). Mine always uses her Statue of Draekon as does my chanter.

The advanced donor weapon is supposed to have an unresistable slow but bosses do resist (which seems unfair as the Druid BP always works)

Turgur's Infestation
Detrimental:
Single Target

Mana Cost 0
Skill Alteration
Range 200
AOE Range 0
Resist Check Unresistable
Cast Time Instant
Recast Time Instant
Recovery Time Instant
Duration 1m 24s
Recourse Turgur's Blessing

Just thinking it would be nice for shammys to actually do something for a raid rather than mostly a single, albeit very useful, buff.

I like the idea of having a high-end pet for the shammy, if for no other reason as to make it a pet that can live a little longer in a fight.

I like the idea of an upgraded pet. I'd prefer that while the pet is active, the Shaman has a buff for +% to healing output or it gives the group +% to heals received. Like a pet-reliant minor group aura.

Clearly the Shaman is useful as an off-healer + slows and doesn't need to invade Beastlord territory, but the pet AAs are mostly useless at the moment.

Also be Handy if they can get there lvl 70 Group HoT Spell Ghost of Renewal. would increase their effectiveness a lot keep them from being just a buff bot.

I agree, mine mostly is a back patch healer to my clr, then sits back and holds the buffbot position. Giving a bit more usefulness to him would be awesome. A grp HoT would add a ton more healing use as well.

I like the idea to give SHM more use beside the raid buffing.
For example SHM could be improved by adding more healpower with a powerful group HoT. Or give the SHM more utility like an AE slow totem to slow adds on raids or some sustained DPS with pet or DoTs.

Hmmm AE slow would be handy. Given that the donor weapon is not irresistable, maybe the slow could be viral and spread to any engaged who are slowable....

I like the idea of making the shm a pet class, or the group HoT would be greatly beneficial, or the totem to come into play. I stand behind all of these suggestions as the shm was my main once upon a time - lets make the shaman powerful again!

Group HoT or a slight pet buff would be nice. I wouldn't want to make them even close to the primary pet classes though, since they do have heals and slows and buffs :)

Recently rolled a shaman to add some buffs extra heals and some dps. Got it decently equipped, threw some aa's at it, got fear pet toys, and before long realized other than it throwing buffs its kinda worthless. The pet? Fully t8 buffed with fear toys it does around 1200dps on tier 1 around 900 on tier 8. A WS pet that anyone can get fully buffed does around 3kdps tier 1, 2200 dps tier 8 with its 1100 poison dot that almost always lands. Shamans have always been a pet class, not like druids that added pets many expansions later. Maybe Im missing a step somewhere, after 67 pet our next pet is a quest that anyone can do in ws? Or a drop from tier 8 boss that anyone can use? No one says shaman pets should be on par with mages or necros, but they shouldnt do less damage than a quest pet or drop pet that anyone can use. Shamans have many areas that need to be addressed but this thread is about the pet, and in all honesty it needs to be looked at.
