High Player Count Raids?

Is anyone successfully raiding with more than 24 players currently? I find that at 24 things are doable with some desync/lag issues here and there but overall the experience is okay, however as we add more players beyond that the zones just seem like the collapse under themselves with desync/lag. Currently our raid group is 24 characters up to 30 depending who is on. I play 12 characters, my wife plays 12, and a friend plays another 6. Things get very unstable a lot of the times when we bump to 30 players. Which really concerns me if our other friend catches up with the 12 he plays I don't even know how that will work. I am mostly posting this as an inquery to anyone that may raid with higher numbers such as this and if they are having any success with it. If there is anything special they had to do in order to accomplish the high player raids. If not, is it a zone stability issue that can be corrected?

I currently run with the usual suspects of ServerFilter=1, literally everything except chats set to Hide in the everquest filter options, and I have 48 filters setup through macroquest to cut down on even more text that comes through. I am not sure what else I can do on this front any input is welcome.

As a further note this is purely a desync/lag issue, not an FPS issue. This has been occuring in HoH which seems to be a usual suspect, but also nadox and most halloween event zones. Have not really tested elsewhere as this is where we are currently progressing.

24 is toward the upper limit but it seems to depend on the zone. With Vex Thal 24 is bound to cause problems but can work. Actually 3 groups seems like a more reasonable number for VT. When it gets to the point that you get more than a second for an effect to show up on your buffs after it has been fully cast, its time to think about dropping characters. If you like massive raids I'd suggest breaking up the raids into two or three group components and run events back to back rather than all at once.

You learn some zones don't take kindly to 24 and deal with it.

For example, if I try to get 24 into Umbral there is always a mess of some type: some characters land in the zone with 190 ms lag, others with 700+.

So I go through Umbral with two waves of 12 to get to VT, one group of twelve gets into VT and a mage hangs out at the entrance to relay a CoTH to a mage in the next wave of 12 etc.

That's unfortunate to hear, puts us into a situation where we are almost forced into using donors to progress which is a lot less exciting of a challenge since T8+ seems to be tuned towards either large amounts of donors or large groups to compensate for the lack of, with one of those options seemingly being not a viable choice :(

Might also depend on where in the world you live. I found as I kept moving west in the US that I had worse and worse connection to the server. To the point where it wasn't even worth logging in anymore because of the lag.

It is definitely a character issue and not a location issue. It hasn't stopped us in our tracks yet as we have been able to complete T8 despite it. However it is becoming increasingly frustrating as we are failing encounters not because of mechanics but because we simply lag out to the point of unplayability. We had to abandon hope on the warrior 3.0 because even after dropping several characters we still couldn't get the Kilrunas encounter to stay stable. We didn't do any of the halloween events because they would completely lag out on us. We are currently working on VT keys and looking forward to it, just hoping that the lag monster doesn't defeat us there as well.

We come back here all the time because this server offers unique encounters that are generally challenging and fun, and not just another boring tank and spank grind like most emu servers out there. I just want to lose the fight because I failed to overcome the mechanics of the encounter, and practice to overcome those mechanics on my next attempt. However I am running into a lot of fights being lost to lagging out and not mechanics.

Like I said earlier in the post if there is anything anyone knows that can be done client side to help this matter, I am all ears and willing to try. If it is purely a server side thing I do hope that Vaion or someone ends up having the time to optimize it a bit, though I know it is probably not top priority.

I spread my 24 over 3 pcs and rarely have issue. it has been a few months since I've played but spreading the accounts across a few pcs helped me out a lot with lag issues. the good thing about Eq is that even a crapy pc can play a few accounts.

Can you post which zones/fights. I've been reviewing a few things and have a thought of something that may be causing issues but would need a bit more trial/error.
Oh the fun you all are going to have in DSK3...

The biggest issues again are when we reach upwards to 30 characters in zone. 12 on my PC, 12 on my wifes PC, and 6 on a friends PC. I don't think seperating characters to different PCs past this will change much since our buddy playing 6 lives halfway across the world and still lags out.

Zones which we have experienced big lag as a result of high character numbers: Nadox, HoH main zone, Rathe Mountains.

Rathe Mountains: Elder Kilrunas (http://www.thehiddenforest.org/webtools ... hp?id=1847) We gave him a few attempts and even reduced amount of characters in zone but couldn't do it without things getting unstable.

Nadox: While there seems to be slight lag going on throughout nothing that is a huge issue until we hit Vistrinda (http://www.thehiddenforest.org/webtools ... ?id=227364), sometimes on Kerani(http://www.thehiddenforest.org/webtools ... ?id=227353) but not quite as bad as Vistrinda.

HoH Main Zone: There seems to be one other guild that is actively doing HoH other than ours currently, and if they have their 20+ roster online and in the main zone and we zone into it with our 24 without realizing they are in the zone the characters almost instantly start desyncing/lagging simply by zoning in.

The HoH raid instances have been pretty lag free, I cant think of a time we lagged out with 30 people in those. This also was not an issue in anywhere before T8. We did DSK1/2 and below all lag free with up to 30 characters.

---- EDIT

Halloween Event: We tried the werewolf commons event and it got pretty unstable, also North Karana seemed to get pretty unstable after we spawned the Boogie Man. We kind of gave up on the halloween event after that so not much else to go on there sorry.

---- EDIT 2

Oh! Plane of Tactics main zone + Vallon / Tallon instances also lagged pretty badly. Tactics main zone was especially noticeable when going towards the pit master thats in the middle of the arena thing. Rallos Instance seemed ok.

Hmmm thats an interesting list since most of those fights don't share much in common code wise.

I am going to do a little reorganizing with the code/timers that effect clients constantly to see if it helps some. I've seen minor spikes hit due to the Aura timers triggering/counting so want to eradicate anything in the behind the scene that may be causing problems.
